Beware: Attackers spreading Phishing emails targeting web wallets

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

Hello

I just wanted to raise awareness and alert all the Steem community regarding phishing campaigns that I start getting more often these last days. It may save someone's life or help any person who is still new to the cryptocurrency world :)

Here is an example of a phishing attempt I received today by email:

"you got 1,80014 bitcoins"

The email prompts the user to click on a link that redirects to a website that copies the appearance of the official Blockchain Wallet website:

No need to explain what will happen if you enter your credentials there...

In the majority of cases, attackers are exploiting hacked websites to host their phishing files. It's the case in this attempt - The hacked website belongs to a customs services agency based in the Czech republic.

Attackers are also using sneaky exploits/tricks to manipulate/hide the URLs to make them looks like harmless.

Please note that phishing campaigns can target web wallets but also exchanges etc.

ADVICES to keep your coins safe and protect yourself from phishing:

  • NEVER use an email link to login to your Web wallets or any exchange. It’s better not to follow links from e-mails at all. Instead you can open a new tab and enter the URL manually.

  • NEVER login with your web-wallet/exchange credentials on any site you reached via a link

  • Report any phishing attempt via the following link: http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish

  • NEVER provide a password or any information by email, Official staff/team of those services will never ask for these

  • Even if an email came from one of your best friends, remember that they could also have been fooled or hacked.

  • STOP using web wallets and start using desktop wallets

I hope this will help!

Upvote and resteem so we can beat Phishing attacks :)
