Crypto millionaire is being cheated of over 5500 BTC
A 22-year-old crypto-millionaire has lost over 5500 bitcoins in a spectacular fraud case, according to media reports. Among other things, a Thai special police unit investigates an actor involved in the case.
Crypto millionaire loses 5564 Bitcoin
According to Thai media, the police investigate a case in which the Finnish businessman Aarni Otava Saarimaa has been the victim of a scandalous fraud case. He wanted to invest in Thai stocks. Among other things, the crypto-millionaire was interested in shares of a casino in Macau and the associated new crypto currencies (Dragon Coin). Therefore, he turned to an alleged holding company.
The Thai fraudsters told the Finnish millionaire that the Dragon Coin can be used in the casino. To make the project seem real, they even brought the investor to the alleged casino. Saarimaa did not doubt the authenticity of the project and transferred 5564 Bitcoin to the holding company.
The missing coins ...
Months passed and Saarimaa wondered why he still had not made any profits from his investment. He then realized that something was not right and addressed the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) in January.
The CSD investigated the case and summarized its findings in a final report. It stated that the alleged holding company had not made any investment for Saarimaa. According to the CSD, the scammers had the Bitcoin paid out in cash and then transferred to seven different accounts. The crooks received about 800 million baht.
Thai actor and brother under suspicion
After months of investigation, the CSD hit Thai actor Boom Jaravijit. He was allegedly involved in the case and was arrested on Wednesday.
The actor's brother, Prinya Jaravijit, is said to have played a major role in the scam. He is probably the mastermind. However, he left Thailand and settled in the United States. The Thai authorities are now working with their American counterparts to track down Prinya Jaravijit.
