As an old-school Steemit guy, I am new to the HIVE ecosystem, but I wanted to share my "trading" experiences since returning to the cryptocurrency space.
I have been mining BTC for about eighteen months and had earned myself about a two thousand dollar USD "stake" to begin trading with. I joined the chat of a "famous guy" on Discord, someone who was a known stock "day trader," but quickly learned several lessons.
I learned that I was better off doing my own thorough research on the projects that I was interested in investing in, and that learning how to read the charts myself, rather than trusting in "advice," or taking a chance on "Pump and Dump" rooms was far better for me than thinking I would "Get rich quick."
I also learned rather quickly that the advice being given in a lot of the chat rooms was only good for the person giving the advice. My decisions were mine, and I had no one to blame for my losses but myself. Most of all I learned that the most common thing I would hear in all of the chat rooms was this, "I wish I would not have sold that so soon..."
The best advice I have heard so far was this, "HODL Rules," meaning, it is a really new market, and things are growing very quickly, what may be losing today, may go to the moon tomorrow!
Good luck with your investments!
