Aptos launches ZK-proof keyless wallet Aptos Connect
Aptos has introduced a new keyless wallet called Aptos Connect, which utilizes zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs) to verify users. This web-hosted application allows users to link their Google login to decentralized applications (dApps) without needing hardware security modules, passkeys, or a multiparty computation network.
Aptos Connect simplifies the user experience by enabling account creation and management using Google logins instead of traditional secret keys or mnemonic phrases. This approach leverages Aptos Keyless, which links a user’s social account to their blockchain account using ZK-proofs, eliminating the need for seed phrases and ensuring a fully web-based experience on both desktop and mobile browsers.
The wallet uses the OpenID Connect (OIDC) standard and ZK-proofs to link social logins to blockchain accounts. This ensures privacy and security by allowing validators to verify user identity and transaction authorization without exposing sensitive information.
Developers can integrate Aptos Connect into their dApps using the Aptos Wallet Adapter, which includes Aptos Connect by default, making it easier to implement.
Aptos Connect aims to onboard a new generation of crypto users by providing a seamless experience within the app, eliminating the need for private keys and reducing the complexity of blockchain onboarding. However, it is crucial to note that the security of the user’s Google account is relied upon to secure funds, and if the account is compromised, all keyless accounts associated with it may be vulnerable.
