Constantinople is not delayed. Buterin gave an assessment of the identified bug
According to preliminary data, the update of Constantinople in the Ethereum network will not be postponed until a later date due to the identified vulnerabilities. Vitaly Buterin and other developers evaluated the bug revealed in the code and called it not critical. News transmits Bitcoinexchangeguide.
The decision was made at a recent videoconference. Several developers were convinced that the vulnerability poses a serious danger, as it affects smart contracts that can use the self-destruct function after the upgrade.
In particular, developer Jason Carver believes that the new feature called Create2 (part of the EIP-1014 enhancement) could allow an attacker to replace a self-destructing contract and change the rules specified in it. It can also interact with "addresses that do not yet exist on the cache, but can later contain a code."
Cybersecurity expert Rajiv Gopalakrishna is also confident that Create2 may adversely affect the security level of the Ethereum network. Using this feature, he said, could allow an attacker to replace an innocent smart contract with a malicious one.
However, most of the developers and Buterin himself are sure that this is not an issue worth paying attention to as a matter of urgency.
"This is not something that we need to solve in the next few weeks, but this is useful to remember when the ETH 2.0 sharding will be associated with the virtual machine specifications," the creator of ETH noted.
One solution to this problem may be the introduction of additional replay protection in the Create2 function. It also became clear that the upgrade on the air network still takes place. Recall that it is scheduled for block 7,280,000 [February 27].
