.The Deloitte Team had a message to deliver at the CryptoChicks Hackathon and Conference .

On April 6-8 of 2018, took place the Crypto Chicks Hackathon and Conference in Toronto, where women from around the world came together to develop innovative blockchain projects, while men and women alike were taking part at the Blockchain conference for all.
This event was created with a clear mission to teach as many people as possible about the benefits of the technology and how it can be applied to drive innovation in all sectors.

Are hackathons only for developers?

The women-only hackathon was organized to educate female developers in creating decentralized applications on the blockchain and in keeping with the mission of the women-focused CryptoChicks nonprofit organization.
We invited business analysts, designers, developers and hackers who want to develop and present decentralized products or it’s prototype in 36-hour hacking time window. There were 2 different tracks with different objectives:

Business Track: Designed for business leaders to present their own blockchain business including MVP mock-ups, business model, crypto economics model and investment plan.
Developer Track: Develop and present to judges a prototype of a decentralized application on a blockchain or blockchain development tool, or hardware device.
Legal Track (NEW): The next hackathon and conference will be held at the NYU School of Law, in partnership with Women4Blockchain. This new track invites attorneys and law students to solve use cases to deliver new regulatory models within the Blockchain space.

Ultimately, we want our girls to create something innovative that will bring a positive change to the world, and solve existing problems and inefficiencies.

Even if they have never “hacked” blockchain before, girls were invited to apply to the free online workshops provided by our community partner BlockGeeks, an online affordable Blockchain training technology educational platform.

"What an amazing sponsor! This was such a gift because there is a lot of information out there that gets lost in the noise and hype, and we just need a platform that focuses on learning the tools.” — The CyberCode Twins

At the end of this weekend, 100 new women will be able to do blockchain development — Elena Sinelnikova, CryptoChicks Founder

It is also important to give equal chances to women around the world. And the idea of a decentralized hackathon seemed perfect to accommodate the lady hackers who wanted to participate remotely.

Hacking from Zimbabwe, one of the girls presented her project FarmerMeetsMarket, a blockchain-based direct farmer-to-buyer auction platform.

Attendance was amazing, we even had Amanda Johnson participate remotely and many other women leaders flying in from around the world to educate and inspire more women to get involved with Blockchain.

We invite you to take a look at the recap video, where the girls talk about their experience as a hacker at the event.

Are you feeling more inspired to take part in a hackathon? If yes, we want to see you at our next event! Check out https://cryptochickshackathon.com/ for more.
