MY INTRODUCTION TO BITCOIN & REGRETS

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago (edited)

My introduction to bitcoin was rather an unusual one. Back in 2011, i visited one of my friends friend for a random night-out.
We all were having a good time, the guys were totally into all sorts of drugs MDMA, Cocaine etc etc.
While we were having a good time, a discussion popped up about how this guy used to acquire these drugs. He mentioned something about TOR, Onions, SilkRoad, Bitcoins etc etc. Something which i had never heard of before. The guy used to buy stuff which was delivered straight to his door. I got a bit upset about how poor the postal system was.

Anyways, i got back home that night, installed the tor client and started looking for silkroad, bitcoins etc etc. I finally opened the website and was a bit freaked out as whatever the guy said was true. It was really late, i went back to sleep to continue with my research the next day.

I woke up the next day and till this day i try to recall why i didn't continue with my research. May be because i wasn't into drugs so didn't really find the need to get involved Or may be i was too scared to get involved with drugs.

Anyways, a year or 2 later when bitcoin made headlines for hitting $1000, i got informed by my friend that this guy who used to buy stuff off silkroad has become a bitcoin millionaire. Apparently, he was possessing 3000 bitcoins, yes you read it right. Frigging 3000 bitcoins which he had bought for a mere $300. I was like shit, this can't be true. I looked up the price and indeed the price had hit $1000.

Now, this was my second big opportunity to get into the crypto currency market. I try to look around for exchanges which sell bitcoin and to my bad luck at that time MtGOX was the biggest and best exchange. I decided to go with that, by the time i was getting my account verified with MtGOX. I heard news of MtGOX being hit by hackers and the price of bitcoin had gone tumbling down. I think it went down to around $200 something.

I stopped looking into buying bitcoins as i didn't have the confidence to put my hard earned money into something which is so unsafe. I set a reminder for the price and totally forgot about bitcoins. I kept getting emails every now and then which i bulk deleted even without opening them.

Now, In 2017, Bitcoin again makes headlines for crossing the price of gold. I am like shit! How did this happen.

Ever since this i just have regrets for not jumping on to the crypto market back in 2011 or even 2013.
Wish i had started on some stuff, or wish i had focused on crypto currencies. Life would be different today.

But, this year May 2017, i have finally bought a fraction of my bitcoins, 0.22 to be precise as that's all i can afford.

CONCLUSION:

"FOCUS" is very important in life. No matter how stupid a topic sounds, if i had "FOCUS", life would be different for me today.
