Facebook Gets New Blockchain Director of Engineering. What's next step?

It was not long ago that social media giant Facebook indicated interest in going into blockchain, and to further show their seriousness about the blockchain technology, and in light of this, they have just named a new engineering director who will be in charge of the blockchain technology.

In this recent development, Evan Cheng who has been one of the senior engineers of the social media giant, was made the director of blockchain engineering, which is a first in the company. Cheng has been Facebook’s director of engineering for three years, in the programming languages and runtime department, after working for Apple for 10 years. According to his Twitter account profile, Cheng has indicated that he’s a blockchain and crypto expert by night, and a programmer by day. Evan, a blockchain expert has been also working with ChainLink and Zilliqa. But this time only difference is it will be a lead builder as Facebook enter the distributed ledger market.

Sometime in May, it was reported that Facebook had created a team for the purpose of exploring the growing blockchain technology, and the head of the team was Facebook’s staff David Marcus, who has functioned as a president in charge of payments at PayPal, and is currently a board member of one of the big cryptocurrency exchanges, Coinbase.

There was a memo by different social media companies to ban the advertisement of cryptocurrencies, Facebook started the ban in January, but has eased on the reins quietly, at the moment cryptocurrencies that want to get advertised need to fill an application. However, only specific types of cryptocurrency adverts are allowed to get advertised on the platform.

Therefore I believe the future of the blockchain is bright and few more companies will join same path. We'll see blockchain everywhere in near future.. :P
