CryptoScam Analysis #4 - [WARNING!!!] WeGrowBitcoins.com SCAM ALERT

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

The website WeGrowBitcoins.com is far from unique. It is an outright Bitcoin-related scam website, using often-seen scam tactics to trick users into depositing money, only to never to receive a return. Let's take a look at another hilarious attempt to fraud the innocent public.

http://wegrowbitcoins.com/

Reasons why it is a scam

  • First of all the website starts with mentioning an extraordinary high and unrealistic reward of 62.76 BTC
  • Consequently, it mentions the terms "Ponzi" and "Multi-level Marketing" and then immediately defends itself by claiming it is 100% legal and 1000% successful.
  • After that it is requesting a small investment of $12 worth of Bitcoin
  • Then it tries to evoke greed in its readers by boldly stating users are able to "drive a new car by next month" by participating in the fake project
  • The website then goes on and on about referrals and "levels". Its impossible to comprehend why the maker(s) of this obvious scam did not even try - at all - to hide the inner Ponzi mechanics of the project. It is baffling how open and elaborate they describe the dubious workings of their project.

By clicking on the Facebook link in the top right corner, we land on a shady Facebook page dubbed "Bitcoin Geeks" with a large "Bitcoin" logo as wallpaper:

The Facebook page is full of new article links related to Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies posted by a man "Charles Wuster". Checking his personal profile it seems that he is using a pseudonym as none of his photos seems to be legitimate. Every picture looks like it has been randomly picked up from Google.

Looking at his friends list, it seems to be a mix of legitimate and illegitimate accounts. The fake profiles are all easily recognizable by the a large gold "coin" logo as profile picture and/or background wallpaper:

It's sad to see that some of Charles Wuster's Facebook "friends" seem to be legitimate people with legitimate Facebook accounts. Did these people fall for the trap and befriended a scammer? Let's hope that they weren't too naive to give away their money..
