I signed up for Uptrennd, a blockchain-based social media platform: Here are my thoughts.

in #cryptocurrency5 years ago

I first heard about Uptrennd through the interview that Jeff Kirdeikis had with @theycallmedan that tweet can be seen here

One thing in that tweet really got me thinking, but I will save that for my next post.

First thing that strikes me is the design. Pretty Web 2.0 (and if I recall correctly, they did mention web 2.0 at some point in doing my research). I expect this to be improved because it is slightly off-putting.

The look and feel is very early 2000's and I kind of expected a pop up to freeze my computer at any moment.

Sign up was easy, simple, no hassles.

What I liked was when you first sign up it asks you some questions on your interests:

I like this because it gets you involved quickly (and not just with trending).

Once you get signed in, this is the first thing you see

Me being me, I wanted to click on it:

This gave me a general feeling that getting rewards was the most important aspect of this platform. This is pretty offputting if I was looking for anything more than that and gave me the general idea of what kind of people it would attract.

Once you got past that, here is what the page looks like when you sign in.

I really like how they have this set up: especially the right side. Here you can see the crypto prices, AND a leaderboard:

Below that you are given an opportunity to join some of the more popular communities with one click.

Below that are the communities that you already joined based on the interests you identified when signing in.

I clicked around a lot and found the How It Works tab - Part of the page is shown below:

I was also happy to see a Hive community there:

Also, when making a post, you have this option:

I need to be a member for 2 weeks before having a invite link, but I didn't really want to wait that long just to share a post. I am sure someone here that already has an account can leave their invite link to join Uptrennd :)

Overall, I look forward to keeping an eye on this project and have it be part of my content distribution channels.
