Diary of a Desert Dude #2: Cryptocurrency Thoughts & Updates
1 February 2018
Many friends new in cryptostuff asking why is everything going to hell.
Cryptocurrency gurus, experts, and supporters are still wasting time circlejerking on Twitter, Medium, and Facebook. It's like they're trying their best not to use cryptocurrencies. Recently found out about the ultra-cheap rates for buying likes and accounts on Twitter. Talk about mass media manipulation. Time to start using Steem, guys.
Steem received a good score from Weiss Ratings. Listed on Binance. @ned seems pretty enthusiastic on Twitter. Smart Media Tokens out soon. Future is bright with this baby.
Sold off all Substratum last week. The team doesn't seem to have a beta-product anywhere near ready yet and in my opinion, had been misleading expectations back in December 2017. Got booted out of Telegram chat because the admins thought I was trolling. Might buy back much cheaper. Remains to be a project that'll really fly if it works.
Raiblocks rebranded as Nano. Pretty sexy all around and might even grab IOTA's marketshare. So far, my favourite pure currency. Increased position just in case this takes off. As for IOTA, just maintaining the position since it has corporate backing and such.
Been accumulating SingularityNET's AGI tokens. The core team behind the project has recently made an appearance in the World Economic Forum in Davos, as well as partnering up with the likes of Nexus, SGInnovate, NR Capital, and Ocean Protocol. Been slowly accumulating some more Agoras tokens over the past month after watching some of Ohad Asor's videos on Youtube. Honestly, one of the most mind-blowing concepts in the space and would love to see more people digging into it and expressing the idea. Laddering down my buys to accumulate more EOS below $8. Ethereum developers not making the hedge on EOS will cry tears of regret later on.
TaaS is distributing its third quarterly dividends between Feb 1 - Feb 10 (source). So far the dividends in 6 months (two quarters) had fully covered my ICO entry. With a growing token value and quarterly dividend payouts, this is proving itself to be a stable coin to hold, although still not entirely automated. Other than that, TaaS is well diversified, all-rounded.
Pillar seems to have made some progress and the future of atomic ownership accounts could become a possibility. Nice rebranding too. Here's my old post on it: https://steemit.com/blog/@kevinwong/the-pillar-project-a-black-swan
Other than Pillar, another wallet-centric project that's making progress is Ethos (previously Bitquence). Laddering down buys to accumulate some more of this.
Better use of time in cryptocurrencies: less time trading and speculating. More time time learning, building, and writing about cryptocurrencies.
99% of cryptocurrencies might end up being mirages in the desert.
Look for The Oasis.

This news just made my day. I'm all in on STEEM and I'm glad to see the massive adoption. 2018 is our year. We'll be glad we took our positions early enough.
Cheers
Excellent overview, Kevin. I'm sad I sold my Agoras tokens. I was bag holding them forever because it seemed like a really interesting project to me as well, but eventually I cut my losses and sold and of course it went up after that. Maybe I'll give it a second look eventually. A while back I took my IOTA gains and bought some Nano at around $1.60. That was one of my best trades of the year. :) I fully agree about stacking EOS whenever you can. I'm also starting to think STEEM may have some big players interested in SMTs due to tweets like this.

Oh that's an amazing move! As for Agoras, I gotta say that I've developed some confidence on it through some trusted accounts on Steem like @trafalgar and @dana-edwards. Wish I understand more about it enough to write about it someday :)
Btw, what do you think about creating an app (or ui/ux) prototyping community on Steem?
Yeah, Dana introduced me to it also. I wish I would have stuck with it.
As for prototyping, yeah! Sounds interesting. Lots of projects in the space need better UI/UX.
I'll have to check out some of these cryptos. I have a few of my own I want to increase or buy into. Need to make a bit more SBD first. Thanks for sharing the info.
XVG, Sia, EOS
Will be interesting to see what happens in 5 years :)
In five years? To use a Star Trek quote. "It's life Jim, but not as we know it." ;-)
enjoyed the read and am still enjoying the music...I would have never thought you would listen to this type of music. I like it.. also I enjoy something they call psydub / electronica music like Ott have a good night ❤️
Ohh thanks for the trading advice! :) EOS... That's a good one! I should totally invest more in that. :)
Better to wait lol. without a product out yet, the price is too crazy imo xD
Ahhh lol true! Hopefully it comes out!
quitting coorporate social media for some is like stopping to eat pizza and ice cream.
EOS and STEEM are my top two for what I expect to be a difficult year.
Sitting on anything else and waiting just doesn't make sense to me right now. I'd much rather be here, seeking out worthwhile content and using my proof of stake to reward and help people along the way.
As above, there is plenty happening in Steem-land, something that is less clear for many other Cryptos.
Cheers!
Hi - and good comment. Besides using Eth to buy some cryptokitties (like an idiot) Steem is the only crypto I actually do anything with!
Buying some more EOS tomo probably.Got to get my head around this whole 'registration' business though.
Steem is my top tip - and EOS too, although the later is based entirely on trust in DL!
I have some of those not so furry kitties too! Saving mine for breeding later when the blueprints are out in the public domain.
DL all the way, I think most of us are supporting EOS because of him!
speculation is a damn hell of a hobby, Times like this are great to exercise them.
I can't imagine time going back before crypto, only what is yet to be invented matters this point on and never the other way around. The total markets volume could swing things either way with ease. Sophia wouldn't be in the same space with the heads of states, we are here for the years to come. Don't we?
Great update, Kevin!
One can see that you deal with cryptocurrencies deeply.
When it comes to nano and IOTA I went for IOTA till now, since they have a more advanced development than Nano I would say (regarding partnerships etc.)
Have to take a deeper look at Nano as well.
I can totally agree on this one.
If you want to make improbable profits now go for trading.
If you want to invest in future, go and have your research
Hi @kevinwong,
The amount of info that you shared about
Steem, SMT, Substratum, Raiblocks, SingularityNET's AGI token
Agoras tokens, EOS, TaaS, Pillar, Ethos was really helpful on increasing my knowledge about cryptocurrencies and tokens. I really appreciate it.
I haven't really do any trading on these cryptos as I am concentrating more on accumulating steems at the moment.
Definitely, continue to learn about cryptocurrency.
I may not reach the level of writing nor building it, but knowing that I got a very good clue on finding the OASIS is more than enough at the moment.
Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
