Update and Choon - The Crypto Spotify
In an attempt to force myself to write more both for my thesis and for this, I'm hoping to start posting regularly both here on steemit and on by blog freshdrops.ca. Some days I may post about similar or the same things, but I want to also strive to write about something interesting that I am reading or thinking about with my research or in the crypto space on steemit.
On a related note, I've also started helping a little bit with artist recruitment for Choon.co, which is a new streaming and music distribution service that is trying to solve some issues with the traditional music industry using smart contracts. This is quite an interesting area for me because it combines my academic work in tech and society, and blockchain specifically, with my passion of music. I think it's a pretty cool project, but don't take my word for it - check the link above, or watch this explanation video on YouTube. If you're interested in becoming an artist on the platform, let me know as I have some invite codes that simplify the sign-up.
Basically, Choon is using the ethereum blockchain to run smart contracts for the distribution of music through streaming, and pays out to artists daily based on the streams that day. The payouts can be defined by the artist uploading the work for distribution percentages. This could function as simply as denoting collaborators on a track, donating a portion of proceeds to a humanitarian cause or charity, paying into an artist collective, or any other creative uses you can think of.
One other cool thing that Choon is planning to implement are monetized playlists - which could be a really great way to promote and be able to support the costs of blogging or to provide some recognition of listeners that share music. There could be some pretty interesting synergies with the steemit community I think. All around pretty cool stuff!
You can also check out updates from Choon on Medium to keep up on platform development!
That's it for an update for now, will be back more soon though :)
