Segmentation of Top 50 Cryptocurrencies (English/Turklish)

It is not easy to understand the crypto world. One of the difficulties in this regard is the fact that there are over three thousand cryptocurrencies. Even reading the short definition of each may take hours.

What are the differences between these cryptocurrencies? And what are the similarities? I thought the answers to these questions might help see the big picture in the crypto world.

Based on this idea, I decided to segment the top 50 cryptocurrencies. Why the top 50? Because crypto needs to be examined to determine which segment it will be in. I thought that a segmentation over the top 50 could give a general idea of the crypto world. Thus, top 50 cryptocurrency accounts for 95% of the total crypto market value.

Segmentation which means separating into groups is a concept that I'm familiar with because of my studies on segmentation marketing. Segmentation in banking is a frequently used method to identify customers and provide better service to them. Here, the purpose of separating the cryptocurrencies into groups is to get to know them better and to get an idea of which group to invest.

I haven't used any clustering algorithms to create segments since clustering algorithms don't perform well on such problems. The segments I create reflect my personal opinion. Therefore, I do not claim certainty; someone else can form different groups from a different perspective.

I created the segments over the value proposition, and the cryptos with similar promises have been involved in related groups.

Pure Currencies

In this segment, consisting of Bitcoin and co, the coins offer the best-known value proposition of the crypto world.

The value proposition of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dash, Decred, Dogecoin, Nano, Bitcoin Diomand in this group are similar;

• A currency that can be safely stored in a digital environment
• Low-cost transfers worldwide 24/7
• Anonymity of personal information
• Decentralized, non-intermediary network
• Transactions are transparent and cannot be managed by a central authority

The cryptocurrencies in this group only have currency functions, unlike those in other groups. That's why I used the phrase "pure" in the title.

Platforms

Many infrastructures are created for building other and cryptocurrencies on top of them. The first and the most famous of these platforms is Ethereum. The platforms that emerged after Ethereum is EOS, Cardano, NEO, NEM, Ethereum Classic, Quantum, Zilliga.

Platforms enable all kinds of assets, and transactions through smart contracts to be digitized. It is possible to think of platforms as an operating system running on a blockchain. On these platforms, non-centralized applications, contracts, and tokens related to them can be created.

Bridge Cryptos

These cryptos are the infrastructure that acts as a bridge between currencies and blockchains. The group includes the protocols that enable the exchanges and different infrastructures to communicate with each other.

Binance Coin is the most popular crypto in this group. It is crypto that enables discounts of the Binance exchange.

ZRX is a project for a decentralized exchange to buy and sell ERC20 tokens created on the Ethereum infrastructure.

Waves is a blockchain platform that lets you create custom tokens that are instantly tradeable on its built-in decentralized exchange.

Ontology provides the integration of many protocol systems. Ontology aims to be a peer to peer trust network with a cross-chain, cross-app, cross-industry and cross-device distributed trust system.

Another Crypto in this group is ICON.

Finance

The main crypto projects for the finance sector are Ripple, Stellar, Omise Go, Populous.

Ripple and Stellar ensure that the international fund transfer takes place with low commission rates, and they allow transfers of national currencies.

OmiseGo is proof of stake blockchain platform built for financial transactions of any kind. The platform is connected to the Ethereum network and features a decentralized exchange of both digital assets and fiat.

Populous is a platform focused on invoice trading. The platform brings the invoice buyers and sellers together.

Price Stability

Tether is a cryptocurrency pledged to the US dollar. Price volatility is therefore very low. Tether is still 8th among the coins. Because it offered a particular value proposition, it was necessary to consider Tether in a separate group.

Media

In this group, cryptocurrencies such as Steem, Tron, Basic Attention Token allow people to make money on the content.

Tron is an entertainment data platform. The platform enables content creators to create digital assets that can be freely exchanged. The platform uses blockchain technology and distributed storage to create a wholly distributed structure.

While Steem enables content producers to make money from the content they produce in social media, it aims to provide valuable content to the audience.

Basic Attention Coin aims to develop the digital advertising industry. They will achieve this by creating a decentralized ad exchange where publishers will be paid for their content and users for their attention while providing advertisers with less expensive customer attention, less fraud, and better attribution.

Privacy

Monero is one of the most popular privacy coins launched as a Bytecoin's fork. Many coins offer a variety of privacy features. Monero was created from the beginning by focusing on privacy. Thanks to features such as secret address and closed circuit signatures. Monera provides full privacy to its owners.

Bytecoin is another privacy-focused crypto that has an active community and user base. The transactions of Bytecoin on blockchain are immediate, unreachable, unbound, and do not allow blockchain analysis.

Another privacy-oriented Cion is Zcash. Operations on the Zcash blockchain cannot be tracked.

Internet Of Things

IOTA focuses on securely communicating of devices connected to the internet. For this purpose, it uses tangle instead of the blockchain, and it creates a network instead of a chain for executing operations. In this way, it can reach very high transaction speed and can work with very low transaction rates.

Because of its originality, I thought it would be appropriate to consider IOTA under a separate segment.

Other

I opened an "Other" title to avoid increasing the number of segments too much. Vechain, Maker, Digibyte, Aeternity, Augur, Bytom, PundiX, RChain, Stratis were included in this group.

As shown in the table, pure cryptos, platforms, and financial applications dominate the list. On the other hand, as the blockchain technology matures, I suspect that other use cases will get bigger.

En Yüksek Değere Sahip 50 Kripto Paranın Segmentasyonu

Kripto dünyasının anlamak büyük bir efor sarf etmek gerekiyor. Bu konuda yaşanan güçlüklerden başlıcası üç bini aşkın kripto para olması. Her birinin kısa tanımını okumak bile saatler sürebilir.

Üçbini aşkın kripto para biriminin birbirlerinden ne gibi farkları var? Birbirlerine benzer yanları neler? Bu soruların yanıtlarının kripto dünyasında büyük resmi görmeye yardımcı olabileceğini düşündüm.

Bu düşünceden hareketle piyasa değeri bakımın ilk 50'de yer alan kripto paraları segmente etmeye karar verdim. Neden ilk 50? Çünkü bir kripto parayı hangi gruba sokacağına karar vermek için onu incelemek gerekiyor. İlk 50 üzerinde yapılan bir segmentasyonun kripto dünyasının geneli hakkında fikir verebileceğini düşündüm. Keza ilk 50'de bulunan coinler kripto para toplam piyasa değerinin %95'ini oluşturuyorlar.

Gruplara ayırmak anlamına gelen segmentasyon pazarlama konusundaki çalışmalarımdan aşina olduğum bir konsept. Bankacılıkta segmentasyon müşterileri tanımak ve onlara daha iyi hizmet vermek amacıyla sıklıkla başvurulan bir yöntemdir. Burada ise amaç kripto para birimlerini gruplara ayırarak onları tanımak ve hangi gruptaki kripto para birimlerine yatırım yapılabileceğine dair fikir edinmek.

Birazdan sıralamaya başlayacağım kümeleri oluşturmak için herhangi bir kümeleme algoritması kullanmadım, zira kümeleme algoritmaları bu gibi problemlerde iyi performans vermiyor. Oluşturduğum kümeler kişisel kanaatimi yansıtıyor. Dolayısıyla bir kesinlik iddiası taşımıyor, bir başkası farklı bir bakış açısıyla farklı gruplar oluşturabilir.

Segmentleri kripto paraların değer önerileri üzerinden oluşturdum, benzer vaatleri olan kriptolar benzer gruplar içinde yer almış oldular.

Saf Para Birimleri

Bitcoin ve benzerlerinden oluşan bu segmentte yer alan paralar kripto dünyasının en iyi bilinen değer önerisini sunuyorlar.

Bu grupta yer alan Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dash, Decred, Dogecoin, Nano, Bitcoin Diomand'un değer önerileri;

• Digital ortamda güvenli bir biçimde saklanabilen bir para
• Küresel çapta 7/24 yapabileceğiniz transferlerde düşük ücret
• Anonim kalma olanağı,kişisel bilgilerin gizliliği
• Merkezi olmayan, aracısız bir ağ
• İşlemlerin şeffaf olması ve para biriminin merkezi bir otorite tarafından manupüle edilememesi

Bu grupta yer alan kripto paralar diğer gruplardakilerden farklı olarak sadece para işlevi görüyorlar. Başlıkta "saf" ifadesine bu nedenle yer verdim.

Platformlar

Diğer blok zinciri projeleri için platform oluşturma iddiasında olan çok sayıda altyapı ve bu altyapılarda geçerli olan kripto para birimleri bulunuyor. Bu platformlardan ilki ve en ünlüsü Ethereum. Daha sonra ortaya çıkan başlıca platformlar EOS, Cardano, NEO, NEM, Ethereum Classic, Quantum, Zilliga.

Platformlar her türlü varlığın dijital ortama taşınmasına, akıllı kontratlar aracılığıyla bu varlıkların üzerinde işlemler yapılmasına olanak sağlıyor. Platformları blok zinciri üzerinde çalışan birer işletim sistemi olarak düşünmek mümkündür. Bu platformlar üzerinde merkezi olmayan uygulamalar, sözleşmeler ve bunlara ilişkin token'lar oluşturulabilmektedir.

Köprü Kriptolar

Kripto para birimleri ve blok zincirleri arasında köprü görevi gören altyapılardır. Grup içinde borsalar ve farklı altyapıların birbirleriyle konuşmasını iletişim kurmasını sağlayan protokoller yer almaktadır.

Binance Coin bu grupta yer alan en bilinen kripto durumdadır. Binance borsasını kullananlara işlemlerde indirim sağlayan bir kripto paradır.

ZRX Ethereum altyapısı üzerinde üretilmiş ERC20 tokenlarının alınıp satılacağı merkezi olmayan bir borsaya ilişkin projedir.

Waves built-in özellikleri sayesinde anında alınıp satılabilen tokenların üretileceği bir blokzinciri platformudur. Bu özellik sayesinde Waves’in merkezi olmayan borsasında komisyon ücretlerinin bir hayli düşük olması beklenmektedir.

Ontology bir çok kaynak protokol sisteminin entegrasyonunu sağlamaktadır. Blok zincirleri, uygulamalar ve cihazlar arasında merkezi olmayan bir yapıda çalışan bir güven ağı oluşturmayı hedeflemektedir.

Bu grupta yer alan bir diğer kripto ise ICON'dur.

Finans

Finans sektörüne yönelik olarak oluşturulmuş başlıca kripto projeleri Ripple, Stellar, Omise Go, Populous'dur.

Ripple ve Stellar uluslararası fon transferinin düşük komisyon oranlarıyla gerçekleşmesini sağlamakta, ulusal paralar üzerinden yapılan transferlere de imkan sağlamaktadır.

Omise Go proof of stake mutabakat algoritmasıyla çalışan ve finansal işlemler yapılmasına imkan veren bir platformdur.

Populous fatura ticaretine odaklanmış bir platformdur. Fatura alıcılarını ve satıcılarını biraraya getirmektedir.

Fiyat İstikrarı

Tether Amerikan dolarına endekslenmiş bir kripto paradır. Fiyat oynaklığı bu nedenle çok düşük seviyelerdedir. Halen kripto paralar arasında 8. sırada olduğu ve çok spesifik bir değer önerisi sunduğu için Tether'i ayrı bir grupta ele almak gerekti.

Medya

Bu grupta bulunan Steem, Tron, Basic Attention Token gibi kripto paralar içerik üzerinden para kazanılmasını sağlamaktadır.

Tron bir eğlence veri platformudur. Platform, içerik üretenlerin serbestçe alışverişi yapılabilen dijital varlıklar oluşturmasını sağlar. Platform blockchain teknolojisi ve dağıtılmış depolama kullanarak tamamen dağıtık bir yapı oluşturmayı hedeflemektedir.

Steem içerik üreticilerinin sosyal medyada ürettikleri içeriklerden para kazanılmasını sağlarken, izleyicilere değerli içerik sunmayı hedeflemektedir.

Basic Attention Coin dijital reklam endüstrisini geliştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Cion reklamverenlere müşteriye daha ucuz erişim, daha az dolandırıcılık ve daha iyi bilinirlik sağlamayı hedeflemektedir. Yayıncılara içerikleri ve kullanıcılara medya tüketimleri için ödeme yapılması öngörülmektedir. Bu hedeflere merkezi olmayan bir reklam piyasası oluşturarak ulaşmayı planlamaktadır.

Gizlilik

2014 yılında Bytecoin'in bir fork'u olarak piyasaya çıkan Monero en popüler gizlilik coinlerinden biridir. Birçok coin çeşitli gizlilik özellikleri sunmaktadır. Monero ise baştan itibaren gizliliğe odaklanarak oluşturulmuştur. Gizli adres, kapalı devre imzalar ve coinlerin tümüyle değiştirilebilmesi gibi özellikler sayesinde Monera sahiplerine tam bir mahremiyet sağlamaktadır.

Bytecoin güçlü bir topluluk ve kullanıcı tabanına sahip bir başka gizlilik odaklı kripto paradır. Bytecoin'ın blockchain üzerindeki işlemleri anlıkdır, izlenemez, bağlantılandırılamaz ve block zinciri analizine imkan vermez.

Bir diğer gizlilik odaklı cion ise Zcash'dir. Zcash blok zinciri üzerindeki işlemlerin izi sürülemez.

Nesnelerin İnterneti

IOTA internete bağlı nesnelerin birbirleriyle güvenli bir biçimde haberleşmesine odaklanmaktadır. Bu amaçla blok zinciri yerine tangle(düğüm) kullanmakta, zincir yerine ağ oluşturarak işlemleri kaydetmektedir. Bu sayede çok yüksek işlem hızlarına ulaşabilmekte, çok düşük işlem ücretleri ile çalışabilmektedir.

Özgün yapısı nedeniyle IOTA'yı ayrı bir başlık altında ele almanın uygun olacağını düşündüm.

Diğer

Segment sayısını çok fazla artırmamak için bir "diğer" başlığı açtım. VeChain, Maker, Digibyte, Aeternity, Augur, Bytom, PundiX, RChain, Stratis bu grup içinde yer aldılar.

Tabloda görüldüğü üzere saf kripto, platformlar ve finans uygulamaları listeyi domine eder durumda. Öte yandan blok zinciri teknolojisi olgunlaştıkça diğer kullanım alanlarının daha büyük pay almaya başlayacağını tahmin ediyorum.
