Before you buy a cryptocurrency Part 1: Coinmarketcap

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

This is the first part of my personal checklist "before you buy".
It's about the things you need to pay attention to on coinmarketcap.com.

-Marketcap:
1+ Billion USD -> low risk/lower but rather steady gains in value
100+ Million USD -> medium risk/ but potential more returns (sweetspot risk/reward in my opinion)
25+ Million USD -> high risk/ potential higher reward if the projekt does well (do your due dilligence if you invest in this range)

-24h Volume:
You also need to pick coins, which have a 24h Volume (easily spotted on coinmarketcap in the 4. column when you enter the site).
If coins have 1+ USD Million 24h Volume, you can buy & sell them easier.

-Circulating vs. max. supply:
The "circulating supply" should me more than 50% of the "max supply" of the cryptocurrency.
You can see these values if you click on a coin.

Take "EOS" for example:
It's circulating supply is roughly 690 Million USD, that's 69% of it's max. supply.
This is important, because if the circulating supply is low compared to the max.supply the team behind the project has a lot of influence and power with the remaining coins, which could be used to manipulate the coin.

-Exchanges:
Check if the coin, in which you want to invest is already listed on "major exchanges" like Binance, Bittrex, OKEx, Huobi et cetera. A listing on big exchanges is always a good sign and the coin gets access to more people and capital.
If that's not the case, google for news regarding a listing on a major exchange, this mostly results in an increase of the prize per coin.

I hope you got some impressions that coinmarketcap is an useful tool to evalutate some important things up front.

Have fun in the cryptocurrency world!
