RE: 2018 - The defining year for cryptocurrencies

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

I think 2018 will be the year for consolidation in the number of coins/projects currently on the market. There are honestly less than 100 projects in hard development, with good teams, good communications, and a solid pipeline. These are criteria that projects need to have if they're to generate any real equity in the eyes of competent investors, wall street, and the media. That being said, the projects that don't should be dumped as the cryptospace sheds its useless, vestigial projects and grows to new heights.

Agreed, we really do need consolidation. Along with that, I hope we will find reputable sources that report on altcoins. Right now if you go on Reddit or here on Steemit there are people touting all types of coins based on what the coins vision is. The thing with that is they could have the best vision, but if there is no deliverable or a team working towards these deliverables then it is all just fluff.

Also I am hoping to see a decoupling with BTC in 2018. When Coinbase/GDAX lists more altcoins we should start to see some decoupling of altcoins from BTC.

Cheers to a great 2018 cryptocurrency market :)

Hey man, I agree with all your points about market consolidation. However, I really dont think that we will see any significant decoupling from BTC as it is kinda the bellwether for cryptocurrencies, the flagbearer, the one and only!

As unfortunate as it is, this is most likely the case for all of 2018. The brand equity of BTC is just too strong.

The developers behind the various cryptocurrency projects will not go down without a fight. While i think ypure right about consolidation, it could get ugly with intentional pump-&-dumps, wallet hacks, and a flood of misinformation. That being said, expect to see many developers with less of an anarchist spirit join the ranks of government & industry blockchain development teams. The talent pool will be a huge factor in which coins survive and the future of blockchain integration in society.
