The Golem Project (GNT) explained in layman's terms
In this small post I would like to explain what is "The Golem Project" in simple terms.
The Golem Project is aiming to become the world's first Decentralized computer, i.e. people would be able to able to proved their Hardware/Compute power in return for Golem Network Tokens (GNT).
Question: What is the problem that this "Golem Project" is trying to solve ?
Answer: As our technology is evolving our need for computation is increasing, computer hardware is becoming more powerful and so are the problems we face, however the more processing power we have the more complex problems we try to solve. There will always be a gap in between as human kind always tries to reach for more ! Big Companies like Google / Amazon/ IBM etc. have dedicated farms (thousands of computers designed to work in parallel )to solve these complex problems, but for a small/emerging group it is very unlikely to gather the resources or even to match them.
The Golem Project aims to provide an average person the processing power using the BlockChain as a Infrastructure Service where people would be able to provide there hardware and people in need would be able to use them for any application they want.
Question: What are the potential Application ? What are the users that will benefit from Golem Project?
Answer :Some of the basic Application may include the following :
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning- Machines are inherently dumb they need to be taught how to do the things we want them to do, and it takes quite an amount of time to teach them (days, months, even years - depending upon the complexity of the task). For example You may have had experience with Goolge Now/Siri virtual assistant, they can perform only a limited number tasks, also your instructions to them need to be precise, but to make them this smart so that they could understand some of our complex language has taken years of research and compute power.
- Biology - Simulate a very dense neural network , Analyzing the DNA, mimicking brain functionalities are all very compute intensive tasks.
- Real Time Rendering - If you're a animator/designer you might have worked with various softwares - Maya/Blender, they take quite an amount of processing power to create photo realistic scenes. With Golem you could just divide and send that high quality rendering task to the network and multiple people with good compute power can do that work for you. So even though you did't have an powerful enough computer you can get the task done faster.
- Complex Physical Modeling calculations - Physics is based on experimentation , and sometimes the cost to conduct those experiments is way too high (and most of the time it not even possible to do the same). So what scientist do is that they build computer models of their experiments and use them instead which saves them a ton of money. Some examples include - 3D nuclear test simulations (won't need to build a bomb), Aerodynamics Research(won't need to build a Airplane), Simulating behavior of molecules. etc. !
- Gamers - If you have a Gaming PC, you could connect it to the Golem Grid and get rewared in golem tokens, which can be converted into BTC/USD/EURO
Please note that these are merely possibilities which the Golem Project could help realize, as of now the project is in development.
I would be covering the White Paper breakdown soon. Please let me know any areas that You would want me cover ?
Upvoted and followed, great content.
Thanks ! :-)
This sounds like something we've been waiting for from the future
