That is very useful information. It seems the miners are holding out on SegWit and the odds of them giving in doesnt seem likely. I wonder how this does affect the long term potential...do other miners step in and take their place?

It is all very interesting and, perhaps, the reason BTC has basically traded in a channel the last couple months.

It's hard to say really. It's such a dynamic position right now which is why I'm trying to monitor it closely.

In the long, long term I can't see Bitcoin surviving except as a store of value and the volatility will have to drop massively for that to ever happen

yeap it can only survive as a store of value. I am very puzzled as to how many prominent figures in the bitcoin world don't see this. I am not sure it's volatility has to drop "massively" for that though - as long as it's value is still rising in the longterm (long term trend remains intact)
