Cypherpunks & Cryptocurrency - A match made in heaven

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

A cypherpunk is defined as any activist who advocates for the widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change. What's interesting to me is how compatible the idea of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general is with the cypherpunk movement. So much so that it leads me to speculate whether Satoshi Nakamoto would identify as a cypherpunk given that the Bitcoin white paper was released just after the 2008 financial crisis and that Bitcoin is designed to be an alternative to the traditional banking system and fiat currency which has become such an insidious tool of economic oppression around the world today. Fiat currency really is nothing more than a tool of tyranny in today's world. A large ball and chain of debt that is created out of nothing and then bound around the ankles of the average person in order to deprive the many and enrich the very few.

Conversely, cryptocurrency is created free of debt and interest and without a central authority which is an extremely good thing for the average persons' social mobility and prosperous financial destinies.

Having contemplated for years before Bitcoin came along how it would be possible to restore the sovereignty of money back to the people and away from the hands of central bankers and bankers in general... I knew from the day that I learned about Bitcoin that it was the solution that I and many others around the world had been looking for and although there is much speculation and volatility in the cryptocurrency market today where it is being intertwined with fiat currency... I believe that one day in the not so distant future that fiat will become secondary to cryptocurrency and it is my sincere hope that the widespread adoption of crypto will take root without surrendering the sovereignty and freedoms that it was designed to restore and protect.

Bitcoin is a revolution in and of itself, whether the mainstream crypto traders realise it or not, and I for one truly hope that the built-in revolution of cryptocurrency is not co-opted and thwarted by the financial powers that be.
