Your rent is due. That’ll be 0.1 BTC. Thank you.

Joel M. Greenberg, tax collector from Florida, on May 14 made an announcement that the Seminole Country of Florida will start accepting cryptocurrency as a payment for services starting this summer. He believes that this will reduce heavy fees and improve the efficiency and accuracy of payments.

According to Cointelegraph, the county will accept Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. People will be able to pay for services; this includes property taxes, driver’s license, ID cards.

Here comes the subtle advertisement – Greenberg said that they will partner with the BitPay to use its blockchain payments system. He claims that this will allow the Seminole County to receive money directly to its bank account just after a day.

Greenberg also said:

“We live in a world where technology has made access to services on demand, with same-day delivery and the expectation of highly efficient customer service and we should expect the same from our government. The aim of my tenure in office is to make our customer experience faster, smarter, and more efficient, and to bring government services from the 18th century into the 21st century and one way is the addition of cryptocurrency to our payment options.”

Cryptocurrency payments would help with removing the risk of credit card frauds and identity thefts. According to BitPay, the Seminole County will be the first government agency to use their services.

Also, according to Cointelegraph, Arizona amended their taxpaying policy. Instead of being obliged to accept cryptocurrency as a payment, the Department of Revenue is obliged to identify if taxpayers “pay the taxpayer's income tax liability by using a payment gateway, such as Bitcoin, Litecoin or any other cryptocurrency.”
