Calcutta trembles in extreme winter Why Calcutta only, in the northern part of West Bengal, the cold wave. Five people died in the winter in West Bengal. Slum dwellers are facing extreme hardships. The lowest temperature on Monday was the highest temperature in West Bengal on Monday, in Darjeeling. The temperature was minus 2 degrees Celsius. Many railway stations in Kolkata, bus terminals, lancaghat people have many problems in the winter. Road lighting on roads, wood, car tires, various plastic breakage drums. Now, buses, trams, trains and launches have reduced the movement of passenger buses all over the state including Kolkata. Five people were killed in cold winter in West Bengal. They are Mintu Singh Rai (42) of Tapan area of southern Dinajpur, Paran Mormu (36) of Srirampur in Trimohani, Dwijen Das (50) of the tank front of Balurghat. Two more died in Bankura and Murshidabad. Their identity was not known. The temperature was 9 degree Celsius, 10 degree Celsius in Kolkata, 6.8 in Sriniketan, 3.9 in Koch Bihar, 3 in Jalpaiguri, 5 in Kalimpong, 7.8 in Krishnanagar, 5.7 in Malda, 8.6 in Bankura, Digha 9.5 degrees, Alipura 10.5 and Midnapore 9.1.
