Today's Meme: "Permanent US Resident" Murdered

in #culture6 years ago

In case you aren't paying attention, the #TheResistance people are up in Outrage™ that a journalist has been murdered by Saudi Arabia. They haven't deemed it important that, for context, the WaPo journo happens to be the cousin of a well-known, late international arms dealer, close to the Bush and Bin Laden families, has ties to The Carlyle Group, has a long history of...well, let's just call it 'activism' against certain elements, not all, but certain elements of the Saudi family and government, and is someone who reeks of being a CIA spook.

Today's memetic addition to the story is being inserted by the #Cleveratti and fellow WaPo journos is the idea the allegedly murdered man is a "permanent US Resident" and therefore equal to a US Citizen and therefore Trump is doing nothing about his murder because of his supplicating relationship to the Saudi regime.

For those of us who can remember beyond Institutional Memory, we find this meme disingenuous because of the reality that, of ALL the nations on earth who have murdered US Citizens (NOT permanent residency visa holders) which one is allowed to do so with complete impunity?

Well, two names come to mind: Furkan Doğan and Rachel Corrie. If the alleged murder of a permanent US resident is enough to earn Blue Wave, #TheResistance style Outrage™ against Saudi Arabia, then why was there hardly a peep ever uttered about Israel?

On March 16, 2003, the IDF was using armored bulldozers, specially built for them by the US company Caterpillar, to destroy the homes of Palestinians and terrorize everyone protesting their actions. Rachel Corrie, while dressed in a bright orange wind-breaker and shouting through bullhorn ALL DAY LONG, had been placing herself between an IDF soldier in his bulldozer and the homes that he was being ordered to destroy. They'd had multiple interactions all day long, but after receiving orders to proceed with the demolition, the IDF soldier opened the throttle and rushed Rachel where she stood. He ran her down and rolled the multi-ton bulldozer over her and then backed up over her body again as he left the area. Hundreds of people were present and witnessed the murder, however Israelis present claimed she ran in front of the bulldozer and the IDF soldier never saw her. This was an outright lied that has been held up by Israel and US politicians ever since.

On May 31, 2010 while most of the US were distracted by Memorial Day holiday activities, Furkan Doğan, a 19-year-old with dual Turkish and United States citizenship, was on the MV Mavi Marmara in International Waters when it was boarded by IDF assassins. He was shot multiple times while filming the incursion and left lying on the deck in a conscious, or semi-conscious, state. In total he was shot in the head, back thorax, left leg, foot, and finally face. All of the entry wounds were on the back of his body, except for the face wound which entered to the right of his nose. According to forensic analysis, tattooing around the wound in his face indicates that the shot was delivered at point blank range.

Many have likely never heard the names of these US citizens that were murdered by Israel. Thanks to the anti-Trump media, the name of the cousin of an international arms dealer will be more important to them than Rachel and Furkan's ever were and every will be.
