Can you speak Pittsburghese?

Pittsburgh is one of the greatest places in the world to live! We even have our own language!
They may “drop their R’s” in Boston and talk…..real…..slow…..in the south, but none of YINZ udder cities in the US have yur own language like we got! YOI!

Unlike most cities, Pittsburgh is a multi-generational city, so many of these terms are passed down from generation to generation. After college, I moved to Washington D.C. and lived there for five years. The running joke was that it was a city full of transplants and finding a “local” was like finding a four-leaf clover. On the other hand, people born in the Pittsburgh area tend to stay here their entire lives. Many of those who leave, tend to migrate back up-stream to Da ‘Burgh like the proverbial Salmon. And, those who don’t return, usually set up their own little piece of Pittsburgh wherever they are (you can find a Pittsburgh-themed sports bar in every major city in the US).
