RE: Curie Author Showcase (March 8th, 2018)

in #curation7 years ago (edited)

Seriously! I always go through the old posting of authors we feature here to get a better feel for them and look for biographical details to include, and that post jumped out at me when I was doing this. It felt a little weird to include a post that was 7 months old here, but honestly it hurt my heart to see that post with 14 views. It blew my mind. It is honestly hard to believe the final image that is arrived at is mirrored the way it is, it absolutely looks like one piece. @apolette is a really creative artist, I love it when an artist's concepts have this level of creativity to match the (obvious) technical skill.

Sort:

yeah, I hear ya. And @apolette (if memory serves) is anchored educationally/professionally in the sciences but also expresses through art. I'm a big fan of people who like to produce at the crossroads of STEM and the ARTS...cool visual/intellectual synergies become increasingly possible (IMHO).

Wow, I'm glad to read that @danielshortell, and thank you @carlgnash for sharing my work :)

It was really interesting to work on this drawing, it was at the same time a kind of technical challenge, and also a real pleasure to do it :)

I first made a sketch with different symmetries (circular around the eye and axial to the diagonal), with main lines, circles, parts etc... just to locate elements

After that I recorded the bottom right part, and then I wrote a script (in c++ and OpenCV) to crop, flip, and assemble it.

I'm glad you like it!

I think I will soon do another "4 hands" drawing ;)

Oh so cool to hear more about that process! Makes sense you used a script for the post-processing, I was honestly blown away by how perfect that part was and thought it must have taken you forever to get that right! Yes please would absolutely love to see another one of those and make sure you let me know when you post it so this time I can upvote it while still in payout!!! Very happy your art opening was a success and I just want to say I am really impressed with your terrifically creative posting :) Much love - Carl
