I Love You - Short Film Behind the Scenes

Opening this Author Showcase is a behind-the-scene look into the work of erstwhile Steemian and filmmaker, Phil Abatecola, who shares his content as @distantsignal. I Love You is a short film, written and directed by Phil, and this post is BTS footage of a day at work with his "lean and mean crew."

Phil does not hide his love for his FS7, which he reckons to have fantastic form factor and image quality. You can see his improvisation in getting the overhead shot, among very many things that make his works stand out. Phil's portfolio embodies an unleashing of the potentials of his gears and crew, and proves his skills, organization and creativity as a video creator and storyteller.

Digging into Mr. Abatecola's blog I could find a bit that explains his fascination with this platform and why he has stuck around so long, consistently upholding an ethos of excellent content contribution.

"The concept of rewarding content creators for their effort is a worthwhile endeavor... I'm hoping that with Steemit, we can have both distributed information and distributed, direct payments that make creating great content feasible and painless for consumers."

Visit Phil's post and blog for this BTS and a lot more.

SKYSCRAPER - Spoiler Review | To See or Not to See

"Actor of stage and screen," Alekzander Shapiro delivers a very entertaining performance review of Skyscraper starring Dwayne Johnson, in another episode of the show "To See or Not to See?"

He takes on everything, from the role of Sawyer (Dwayne) as an amputee "punching up" to the bad guys, the scene of the crane jump, the co-stars and supporting roles, the score... and then that topic that is gradually taking its place in the canon of fandom argument: how much of Die Hard is this?

"Yes! There is no doubt this film has similarities to Die Hard," Alekz explains. "But it also has plenty of its own mojo going for it, including fine performance from its leads.

"And for all those people losing your minds, shouting about how derivative it is, that's fine. But I don't want to see you having kids. It's only fair. You don't get to say 'this is just that movie again' and then pump out five kids. That's subjecting us to five remakes of you."

Such is the humor of Shapiro. His style is stuff for theater, and I swear you won't be bored. He manages to deliver a very critical and in-depth review, while keeping it at such high level of comical.

The Zombie, and its connection to the human psyche

Brian offers a scholarly dissertation into how Zombies got enshrined into the narrative and culture of modern man from the dusk of the last century, and how this romance correlates with our political and economic systems. As one commenter praised, he "managed to turn a discussion about zombies in an intellectual direction."

His discussion spans timelines across the industrial revolution, the two wars that brought mankind close to and familiar with death; and features classic authors like Edgar Allan Poe, and works like Frankenstein, in his exploration of how progression of the zombies tracked larger trends.

The second part of the post is Brian's original painting, “Savior Self” – a recreation of Da Vinci's "Last Supper." Click the link for the thought process of the artist.

His sequel to the mythology discussion, posted on his blog too, is "focused on the story of Medusa and how that story was symbolic of an empire's conquest and the loss of identity for the victims." Another interesting read you can find here.

Read Brian. Go ahead.

Events Filming - what I do

If film-making interest you either as an industry professional or amateur, or you simply enjoy the process of making reels for screen, then @ashtv is your guy. He's a professional videographer based in Yorkshire, UK. His introduction to Steem was in the form of a serendipitous work relationship. Commissioned for a green screen gig with @anarcotech and the rest of the guys at Promo-steem, he left the shoot with enough information and gusto to give the platform a trial run. And here he is.

Since then he has dedicated his blog to sharing bits of his career as a filmmaker. This recent post is about event filming, a path he collects accounts for 70% of his work. He takes us through his checklists for a successful shoot, and a bit of other stuff that defines his outlook and approach to work.

Take a look at it.

Survival: Bamboo Cooking Pot

"We had been 3 days since we stepped in this house to save ourselves away from the blood hunter. We are group of five; My wife, and our 3 little girls and I myself."

It doesn't get any more gloomy. What to do if you are left to survive in the bush with a wife and three young girls, and just a flintstone, knife and very basic survival tools? Grab a seat and read @el-nailul's post. I would do my best to not spoil this one at all, so be sure to read it.

"Survival is adjustment [of] ability to adapt in particular situations until it feel as routine life," writes the author. And one of these adjustments could involve cooking wild taro porridge with a bamboo pot. Yeah, you read that right.

It feels like an episode of NatGeo's Survive The Wild. Just realer 😉

Read it here. Try to read to the end.
