ArtSearch | 3-Dimensional Art with @Balabastic
At @TheNewAlchemists we curate the “whole artist”.
We want to get steem artists long-term followers, not just single upvotes (although those are nice too!). Find out more about our work in creative placemaking, our commitment to storytelling, and our belief that great art transcends language.
Every week our diverse roster of curators will select artists -- in any artistic category or language they wish to work in -- to feature in ArtSearch!
We are working with a roster of 10 curators currently, and hope to build our roster to 14 regular curators within the next month. Submit your application here if you are interested in joining our growing community. And now...here we go!
ArtSearch | Visual Arts Curation with @Balabastic
Hi, I’m @balabastic, a passionate artist! I mostly work with space, installation and sculpture but can’t refuse to come back to some drawing and printmaking. I believe that reflective art can change the world, and a good concept together with wisely selected form, can bring essence to the viewer.
This week I focused on visual artists that work with three-dimensional forms (something that goes beyond the frame). I am excited to share them with you today.
Introducing @puddles a connoisseur of Craft Circle Jerks, Death Thoughts Daily, Farm Life, Social Psychology, and Dark Humor
@Puddles impressed me because he uses very straightforward material which each of us can find at home, in the garden or on the street. It’s not easy to take trivial ingredients and transform them into something living. It’s like giving a second life to your dead table or jacket.
Introducing @steelartworks: an artist and tradesman making metal abstract sculptures and wooden constructions which live outside.
@Steelartworks shows us that practice makes an artist. When you are familiar with a material you will definitely find the best form to complete it. It’s also not so often in our totally digital world that we come back to the core materials and bring them outside!
Introducing @namzke: * an artist, designer and educator from Los Angeles currently working in fine arts and specializing in sculpture, large installation art, and architecture*.
@Namzke gives the viewer an opportunity to see behind the scenes and learn how architectural projects develop and evolve. How do you build a wooden sculpture which is ten times bigger than you? How do relationships systematically change when introduced to a new set of criteria?
Introducing @timroosen: "There are lots of things you can do with metal... and I'm talking about the material here, not the music. You can make stairway railings, gates, bannisters, lamps, furniture... and those are all things I do make. But I also make sculptures out of it."
@Timroosen impressed me because he is not afraid to write about experiments and artistic failures (if I can call them failures) and about how the long process to the final result can improve upon your first ideas. He shows the beauty and potential of an ancient (and probably forgotten) technique that still can be beneficial for the artists living today.
Introducing @armincopp an artist working with different realities: imaginary, digital and our shared world. He focuses on digital creativity and science.
@Armincopp impressed me because he is very productive (you can find hundreds if not thousands of renders on his page), and he has an ability to make art in a way that it looks futuristic on the one hand, and also reminds me of something familiar. Was it that spaceship I saw in my dreams when I was a kid? Or was it that dew drop increased under a microscope? Or maybe something I can’t even remember. Find your interpretation!
And those are the artists I have to share with you today!
Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your support of steem art. As a curator, I’m trying to look for things that make us think or feel, or better both. The art I find will ask questions about our surroundings and touch on that essence we can hardly formulate, but are related to. You are welcome to read more about my curating proposal here.
ArtSearch is an ongoing curation initiative working in any artistic medium and in any language. If you are interested, you may read our curation standards below:
(1) We will curate for quality first and foremost. We believe artists should take the time to create a well thought-out and formatted post to feature their work. It is good business practice, and the number one rule of self-marketing. We want to empower artists who are ready to invest in themselves as entrepreneurs.
(2) We believe "artist" is synonymous with "creative”. We loosely define an artist as anyone working creatively and demonstrating a high level of artistry in their work in any sector!
(3) We believe in featuring the "whole artist" as opposed to a single post. We want to help artists get long-term followers, not single upvotes (although those are nice too).
(4) We believe art is a "practice”. We will feature artists who show a commitment to growth and development (i.e. a new account that is continually/quickly getter stronger is more interesting to us than an "established" account that is not advancing).
(5) We believe art is tied to the world in which we live. We will prioritize showcasing artists whose work is a reflection of society, or a commentary on it (i.e. art with a message, purpose, or mission) and artists who are underrepresented in mainstream "art" sectors.
(6) We believe in sharing your story and/or your process. We are here to help artists thrive, which means helping to build a community of support for what you are doing. Sharing your story, and your process lets people into your world (and lets us know you're ready to do the extra work it takes to run a terrific blog/business).
(7) We believe art transcends language. If a post is well-written, well-formatted, and features inspiring art we will curate it regardless of whether it is in English.
Thanks again for stopping by, we appreciate you being here!
