Tell me about it. I had the goddamn thing for three days. I cycle it to the office, one time, and some dickless piece of shit fucks with it.
They should be fuckin' killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution.

This is message to the person who stole my work mates bike last week. It is not a victimless crime, regardless of whether or not it is insured, it was his pride and joy, and you truly fucked up his day.
You want a bike? You get off your fat lazy ass and go out and work for it, don't just steal someone elses. It is not just. It is not fair. And it is completely out of order.
Everyone who owns a bike please invest in a couple of descent u-locks. They are a lot harder to cut than a bob standard chain.
problems with locks is they only protect the frame. I've seen bikes stripped all the way down to the frame. and everything else gone lol.
You can do something like this and similar with the front wheel too, if you have another one. Which protects the frame and the wheel at the same time.
But your right it isn't full proof but it is a reasonable deterrent.
Cyclists often mistake their bikes as their girlfriends..
