[Single Guy Cooks on Sundays] Dumplings!

It's Sunday again and I'm out cooking again heh. I've always been a fan of Chinese food, especially anything with stuffings, like steamed buns, dim sums, and of course dumplings!

To satisfy my cravings (again), I decided to make my own dumplings!

So let's get into it! These are the ingredients that I used to make mine:

For it's skin I used store-bought dumpling skins. As for the stuffings:

  • Minced pork
  • Fresh shrimps (small)
  • White turnips (a.k.a sengkuang, for the crunch!)
  • Minced garlic
  • Coriander (Really heightens the taste and the freshness of the ingredients IMHO)
  • White Pepper
  • Salt
  • Soy sauce

So, when dealing with the skin, I used extra flour for smoother separation to avoid tear, and used clear water as sealing agent (sounds so posh mmm).

My twist for the stuffing is to stir-fry the turnip with garlic first and season it with salt. Then I let it cool and mix them with raw minced meat and the rest of the ingredients. The mixture is then seasoned with more salt, pepper and soy sauce.

Then I add 1 small shrimp as a base of the stuffing.

Then one table spoon of minced meat mixture.

Then seal the dumpling with clear water, the skin is starchy so it's sticky enough to seal when it's wet.

I folded the seal to in folds to make it more presentable, and of course you can do whatever you want baby.

Now to cook it, you can either bake them with oil coating, or deep-fry them, and even cook it in water or soup, it tastes awesome with soup noodle!

So go try it, it's super easy to make and I made a whole batch of them! They will last me at least 4-5 meals (around 30 pcs of them from the ingredients I bought). I just freeze the rest and take them out to cook them whenever I feel like eating dumplings.
