What's your favorite Anti-War/Peace-Movement Song? [Win SBD]

in #danceweekend8 years ago

Dear Community,

I was sad to see that the #danceweekend by @uwelang had been cancelled today due to the recent bomb-attacks in Syria.

The alleged terror-attack in Stockholm today might be another reason for some to stop dancing and being happy.

On the other hand, if we freeze in fear and stop doing what we love, the evil powers will win!

So I suggest we just change the topic of the #danceweekend to post songs about peace/love/positivity. Like this:

The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?

Also anti-war/protest songs like the following are an option:

Edwin Starr - War (What is it good for?)

Please add your favorite song in the comments to help lighten up the darkness!

As a thank you for participation I will giveaway 1 SBD for the comment with the most reactions (votes/replies).

Thanks for listening & taking part!

@shortcut
Sort:

I can think about two:
First of all, my most favorite song of all times:

  • "Child in Time" - Deep Purple
"Child in Time" - Deep Purple, Deep Purple in Rock

The other one is performed by our fellow Steemian, @tatianamoroz (Sorry, Bob Dylan, your original version is not that good):

  • "Masters of War" - Bob Dylan Tatiana Moroz
"Masters of War" - Tatiana Moroz

Honorable mention: (true) story about Wojtek, a bear, who acted like a man at hard times of war.

  • "Piosenka o Wojtku" - Marika & Maleo
"Piosenka o Wojtku" - Marika & Maleo Reggae Rockers, Panny Wyklęte "Wygnane" Vol. 1

Please take your time and listen. Do it in old fashion way: listen without distracting yourself to other activities.

Thanks for participating. Great additions. Listening right now...

The "Masters of War" by Tatiana is my favorite of your entries. She really has an amazing voice.
But Deep Purple is a close runner-up.
I also did a quick google translation of the Marika & Maleo Reggae Rockers lyrics. Really liked this one, too.

Thanks for participating! I don't know that one yet. Would be helpful to post a link to a youtube/vimeo-video to be able to listen to it right in the thread.

Great addition! Thanks for putting up a video-link!
I know the band but had forgotten about the title!

The 60s are a great ressource for this kind of music :-)

How about this? A bit angrier:

System Of A Down - Boom!

System were awesome. 90's metal had something to say. Puts the meaningless junk (mostly) post 2000's to shame

Yes, I really love their combination of energy and meaning! I'm not really up to date with actual metal-music. But I'd say, it's time for some young musicians raising their voices.

This song was meant as a song to advocate the survival of the anarchist free-city Christiania in Copenhagen. It's a great anti-war song even though it wasn't meant for war... here with Spanish subtitles (all I could find).

Fucking crazy shitheads doing that in Stockholm...

I've heard about Christiania, a very interesting project. Is it still alive?
Unfortunately I neither speak danish nor spanish... Would like to understand the lyrics.

Fucking crazy shitheads doing that in Stockholm...

I second that :-(

Yes, it is and have been a part of Copenhagen for more than 40 years, no one is going to close it down . Copenhagen would be a war-zone. Even peaceful me would take to the streets.

The chorus goes: you can't kill us, you can't kill us, because we are a part of yourself. It has this fine logic that if you kill of half the population you will be half a human. Just look at the Turkish people who can't come over the terrible killing of the Armenians, they can't even mention it so many years after. They burned and scared themselves. Goes for all killings, no matter where...

Wow, that are really deep thoughts. Truely worth thinking about. I often see people denying there darker thoughts and fears. That also often leads to living a half-life... and killing your full potential. Maybe it's comparable.

Yes, the song-writer hit on something with this chorus - somehow intuitivly comparable to a lot of life's aspects.

Video link doesn't work... Do you have another link?

Either topic missed or I just don't get the irony. Thanks anyway.

peace thru superior firepower.

More likely: Peace through blowing up the planet. Eternal peace!

"My Idea of Fun!" by the sagely anarchists of The Wingnut Dishwashers Union

Thanks for this addition. I confess, that I had to google this one, too. Some interesting thoughts there:

We're building a new world, all of my friends and me
Its not an exact science yet, but we have the technology
Now all we need is an economy where everybody finally will get enough to eat, even the suburbs
No powers getting too crooked to stand on its own feet for much longer than it has

So i dont want to kill a cop, what i want is neighborhoods where they don't have to get called
When the shit goes down
Cause our friends, they are enough, and our neighbors have enough
Finally we're enough
