The Adventures of Sammy Rabbit Chapter 2: Sammy goes to Kindergarten

in #dbooks7 years ago

It was an ordinary late summer day when Sammy's mother came in to wake him.  But to Sammy, the day was not so ordinary. Today was his first day of Kindergarten! He had been looking forward to this day for a long time. It was finally here. Sammy was already dressed in his little blue sweater and was ready to go. He jumped out of bed and ran into the kitchen. His mother had just finished making his lunch. A cabbage sandwich, an apple, and a slice of carrot cake. Carrot cake was his favorite but his mother told him it was only for his lunch. Mother rabbit took Sammy to school and walked him to his classroom. There were many little children there already. He noticed a fox, a hedgehog, a sheep, a chipmunk, and another little rabbit named Lola. Sammy was excited to meet Lola. He had never met another rabbit other than his own siblings before. He said good bye to his mother, put his lunch pale in his cubby marked with his name, and sat down next to the other children.

Sammy's teacher  was a very nice Alpaca named Miss Finnegan. She began, "Good morning, class. Welcome to your first day of Kindergarten!" All of the children were very excited! "This is new to you all, so don't be scared to ask questions if you have them. We're going to start off today with an art project." She had the children pull out paper and crayons from their desks. "Now, I want you all to draw a picture of your favorite thing. When we're all finished, we are going to have a show and tell. This will help us all get to know each other." Sammy was very excited! Coloring was one of his favorite activities! All of the children began drawing their favorite things. Sammy didn't really know what to draw because he had many favorite things. Felix the fox drew a red firetruck. Henry the hedgehog drew a blue tricycle. Sally the sheep drew a doll. Charley the chipmunk drew an acorn. Sammy was going to draw a picture of his blue sweater his mother made for him when he realized his favorite thing was Carrot cake. All of a sudden, he heard a quiet shy voice from behind him. It was Lola. "Um, excuse me Sammy. May I borrow your orange crayon?" Sammy grabbed his orange crayon to give to Lola when he looked down and saw that Lola was drawing the same thing he was...a slice of carrot cake! "You like carrot cake too?" Sammy asked. "Why yes, it is my favorite." Lola replied. Sammy's face turned bright red as he started to giggle. "It is time to share your art work." Miss Finnegan announced. All of the children gathered around the red carpet at the front of the room to share their artwork. All of the children were very happy to share their drawings. Each one of them had a fascinating story to go with the drawing. When it was Sammy's turn to explain his picture, he  excitedly jumped up in front of the class to show them his work. As he was talking, he noticed Lola starting right at him! He covered his bright red face with his drawing and started to giggle again. Lola smiled. Sammy had a hard time finishing after that. He wanted to impress Lola.

"It is time for lunch everyone." Said Miss Finnegan.

The children all ran to their cubbys to grab their lunch pales. Sammy grabbed his and as he was walking back to his seat, Lola tapped his shoulder. "Sammy would you like to sit next to me?" Sammy nodded his head with excitement. Lola grabbed his hand and they skipped back to the tables. Sammy opened his pale and pulled out his cabbage sandwich, apple, and carrot cake. Lola's eyes got really big when she saw the cake. After all, carrot cake was her favorite thing too. Sammy noticed that she was looking at his cake. "Would you like some of my cake, Lola?" Asked Sammy. "Of course, thank you!" Said Lola. Sammy used his knife to cut the slice in half so they could share. Lola smiled and then giggled. After lunch, it was time for Sammy's favorite time of day...RECESS!

Miss Finnegan had all the children line up single file so they could walk outside to the playground. Sammy was also kind of nervous because the bigger kids were outside too and he was used to just his siblings. Out side in the play yard there were so many thing to see. Sammy saw kids riding tricycles, some playing tether ball, some were playing on the swings, there was a teeter totter, a marry go round, and he also saw the big jungle gym with a slide attached. Lola looked at Sammy, grabbed his hand, and pulled him over to the swings. They pushed each other for a little while. Then they went to play on the jungle gym. After that, they raced the tricycles as fast as they could back and forth on the black top. Soon after, Lola got tired. "Would you like a piece of bubble gum, Sammy?" Asked Lola. "That would be great, thanks!" Said Sammy, she gave him a piece and they started to chew. Lola looked at Sammy with big eyes and said, "Let's see who can blow the biggest bubble!" Sammy, still chewing, nodded his head. Lola blew the biggest bubble she could. Until it finally popped! Sammy was still working on his bubble. It grew bigger and bigger and bigger. Lola cautioned him not to blow the bubble so big, but Sammy thought that was the entire point of the contest. "Be careful!" Lola cautioned. Sammy ignored her. He was winning, he didn't want to stop. All of a sudden, the wind picked up! At that point, Sammy's bubble was so big the wind swept him right off the ground! He started floating away in the air! Lola was immediately frightened and she yelled, "Miss Finnegan! Miss Finnegan! Sammy is floating away!" Miss Finnegan tried not to panic as she yelled, "Sammy, get back down here this instant!" Of Course, Sammy couldn't hear her and he just kept that bubble tight in his mouth. By this time, he was really high off of the ground and if the bubble popped, he could really be hurt. Next thing you know, the wind changed and Sammy was swooped the other direction! All of a sudden, he slammed right into the top of the flagpole! He was stuck! He was scared to move and scared to pop his bubble. Miss Finnegan called the fire department to come to the rescue. All of the children, by this point, were hovered around the pole staring up at Sammy! After what seemed like forever, the fire department arrived and Sammy was rescued. Once Sammy made it back down to the ground, the children cheered because Sammy was finally safe. Lola ran to Sammy. "Are you okay?" She cried. "Yes, I am okay!" She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight. Sammy smiled as he hugged her back.

At the end of the day, Sammy's mother came to pick him up from school. "How was your day, Sammy?" She asked. "Just fine." Sammy replied. He decided not to tell his mother about the bubble gum incident. He didn't want to worry her. His mother smiled and said, "Nothing interesting happened?" "No, not really." He said. Sammy didn't know that Miss Finnegan had called his mother to tell her what happened. "Are you sure you don't want to tell me?" "Yes." Sammy said. Sammy's mother smiled and said, "Okay, how about we get you home, and you can have a slice of fresh baked carrot cake." Sammy nodded in agreement. He was glad to be home.

It was a long day for Sammy the rabbit. He shared with his fellow students. He made some friends. And he learned that if he is not careful, bad and sometimes scary things can happen. A lot of new things and adventures await him. What will happen to him next?
