Deep Dives Research Challenge - Wikileaks Archive

Wikileaks founder and longtime editor-in-chief, Julian Assange, was forcibly removed from the Ecuadorian embassy and arrested by UK police on April 11th, 2019.

This is the backdrop for Deep Dives #13 and it's now more important than ever before to dig deep into the material Wikileaks has made public. Deep Dives has already hosted six research challenges into the organization's archive which has uncovered a wide range of underreported articles thanks to Wikileaks.

It's time to get back to digging in the vaults and back to building an archive of research on the blockchain.

The Wikileaks archive is arguably the most trusted publicly available archive and one of the largest collections of government documents, files, emails, and cables anywhere across the internet.

The Wikileaks Archive

“WikiLeaks is a giant library of the world’s most persecuted documents. We give asylum to these documents, we analyze them, we promote them and we obtain more.”

- Julian Assange

Der Spiegel

  • The Wikileaks archive contains well over 10 million documents
  • Wikileaks Docs have been cited in over 28,000 academic papers and US court filings

The Wikileaks Index

Back in late 2016, Wikileaks revealed the existence of a little-known index that combines onsite and offsite resources relating to Wikileaks material. This invaluable tool helps make the mammoth amount of documents available on the Wikileaks website more accessible and systematic.

Not making any promises but hopefully we'll have a new tool at our disposal from @deepdives contributor @fortified that could be very useful to researchers out there.
Fingers crossed ;)

VPN suggestion?

We prefer not to recommend specific VPNs, but a good rule of thumb would be to use a VPN that is based outside of the US and generally paid versions are much more secure than unpaid versions.

A good place to start might be: proton vpn
https://protonvpn.com/
This is a free vpn but is based in Switzerland and TOR compatible.

protonmail is a very trusted end-to-end encrypted email service.

As always, @deepdives Research Challenge is a recurring opportunity for any Steemit author to explore and report on an issue which interests them related to 'Government' and/or Government related activities which may directly or indirectly affect the health, safety and prosperity of all.

This Deep Dives challenge rewards you for your time and energy spent in producing an entry, which in my opinion is quite generous compared to what 'others' typically offer on the Steemit platform.

@AngryMan supports and endorses these Deep Dive challenges, and encourages you to join in with support as well.

I'm on an Africa kick right now. Might be time to dive deep on operations there.

It's open-ended, go for it!

There seems to be a lot of confusion going around about a 'new dump' from Wikileaks. Just for clarity, this is an Index that was previously released in 2016 and Deep Dives has been linking to it in the announcement posts for many months now. This is the same as the wikileaks.org files, it just makes it easier to download and mirror.
WL has been trying, all be it unsuccessfully, to point this out.

Ah I see, thanks for the heads up, I was informed by 3 people it was a new dump.
