Are you new to DeepOnion? Are you curious about what DeepOnion is, some of it's features or looking for a way to earn some ONIONs? This guide is for newcomers to the DeepOnion project, and serves to answer some basic questions that come up time and time again. By the end of this article you should have a solid grasp on what DeepOnion is, its key features, and ways to get involved in the community. Good luck!

What is DeepOnion and what features does it have?

DeepOnion is an anonymous cryptocurrency which is integrated with the TOR network. Utilizing the TOR network allows DeepOnion users to send and receive private transactions while remaining completely anonymous. By hiding the identities of participants, DeepOnion protects its user’s identities from hackers, governments and anyone else who may have bad intentions. With the increase in government regulations, cryptocurrency hackers, and efforts to tax digital currencies, DeepOnion can provide a truly private and untraceable currency.

Key features which will help differentiate DeepOnion from other cryptocurrencies in the future include DeepVault, DeepSend and VoteCentral. Continue to the following subsections to find out more about these features.

DeepVault

DeepVault is a feature that allows users to add a cryptographic hash to a document or image and record it in the DeepOnion blockchain. As long as the document hash remains the same, then a user can be confident that the document has not been altered. Think of it as a way to ensure that a document remains unchanged and legitimate. Any other person can check the document hash and confirm that the document or file is unaltered. It's basically a way to confirm the authenticity of a file. If the hash has changed, then a person can tell that the file has been altered.

DeepSend

In the most simple terms, DeepSend is a feature that allows users to send or receive $ONIONs completely anonymously. It will use a multi-signature method to hide the transaction trace, making it nearly impossible to determine either the source or destination of any given transaction. DeepSend is utilizing a tried and true method first developed by SuperCoin, and specific details on the DeepOnion implementation will be released at a later date.

VoteCentral

VoteCentral is a web app for the DeepOnion community where important decisions about DeepOnion’s direction will be made. Each person who meets the criteria to participate will have the opportunity to vote and help shape the path of the DeepOnion currency. VoteCentral is an important feature because it democratizes DeepOnion, ensuring that no one person, or small group of people, have too much control over the project. All decisions will be community driven.

Where can I buy $ONIONs?

Now that you have read a bit about DeepOnion and some of its key features, you want to buy. Currently DeepOnion is listed on three exchanges, but two of them are more or less dead. The only active exchange listing DeepOnion is Cryptopia, and it has available trading pairs of BTC/ONION and LTC/ONION. So if you’re looking to invest, head over to Cryptopia.

How can I join the airdrop/Get free ONIONs?

Currently DeepOnion has two active airdrops. There is the signature campaign airdrop, also known as the main airdrop, and the DeepPoints airdrop. Review the sections below for information and criteria to join each airdrop, as well as the section on other ways to earn free ONIONs.

How do I join the “main” airdrop?

The main airdrop is completed every week on Friday. In order to participate in the main airdrop, you must meet the following criteria:

     • You must hold at least 100 $ONIONs in your DeepOnion Airdrop Address
     • You must have a join date prior to December 1st, 2017 on BitcoinTalk
     • You must post 5 times weekly on BitcoinTalk with a minimum of 50 characters each
     • You must post 3 times weekly on the DeepOnion forums with a minimum of 50 characters each
     • You must add the appropriate DeepOnion signature to your BitcoinTalk account according to your Rank and your ID number.
     • You must add you DeepOnion Airdrop Address in your BitcoinTalk Profile.

If you meet all the above criteria, you can apply for the airdrop HERE. More information about the rules regarding the main airdrop can be found HERE.

How do I join the DeepPoints airdrop?

Unlike the main airdrop, there are no rules to participate in the DeepPoint airdrop. All you need to do to participate in the DeepPoints airdrop is to participate on the DeepOnion community forums. You will earn DeepPoints for completing certain actions, such as just posting on the forums. More information on how to earn DeepPoints can be found below in the section “How can I earn DeepPoints?”

Your DeepPoints will be converted to $ONIONs each week on Sunday, and the associated $ONIONs will be automatically deposited in your wallet. You don’t need to apply to join, and you don’t need to do anything to convert your DeepPoints to $ONIONs. It is all automatic. On Sunday every member’s DeepPoints are reset back to zero and the weekly process starts over. The amount of $ONIONs you receive depends on the total amount of DeepPoints earned by the entire community.

Other ways to earn free ONIONs

Now that you understand the different airdrops, you may still be curious about the other ways to receive free ONIONs. There are currently several methods other than the airdrops to generate a few ONIONs for yourself without spending money.

You can perform bounties to receive ONIONs for your work. If you can create quality articles, videos, or tutorials, you will be rewarded with an ONION bounty. The amount of ONIONs you receive is dependent on the quality of your work. If you submit a low quality article or video, you can expect to receive a very low bounty payout. If your work is high quality and well thought out, you will be rewarded more. Take your time and produce something worthwhile and you will find some extra ONIONs in your wallet.

The final method to procure some free ONIONs is by entering giveaways and contests on the DeepOnion community forums. Generous community members routinely create giveaways to spread some of their ONIONs to the lucky winner. So try your luck, and maybe you’ll find yourself with a few ONIONs more.

What is the difference between DeepOnion and DeepPoints?

This is a common question seen on the DeepOnion beginner’s forum. The answer is relatively straight forward.

DeepOnion is the name of the project as a whole. It may also be used to refer to the coin itself (the currency are actually called $ONION on exchanges). Think of DeepOnion the same way you would think of Bitcoin or Litecoin. It’s the name of the currency/project.

DeepPoints are the points you get for participating in the forum. Think of it as a bonus for engaging with other people who are interested in the project. DeepPoints don't have a specific ratio of DeepPoints:ONION. The amount of Onions you receive for your DeepPoints depends on the total amount of DeepPoints the entire community has. DeepPoints reset every Sunday and are converted to Onions.

How can I earn DeepPoints?

There are many ways to earn DeepPoints, all of which revolve around the DeepOnion community forums. DeepPoint formulas are constantly tweaked to discourage cheaters and farmers, so make sure you are being honest and really contributing to the forum, as opposed to just trying to farm DeepPoints. As of the time of writing, here are the current ways to earn DeepPoints:

Keep in mind; certain forums do not receive any rewards. For instance, posting in the Off Topic forum provides no DeepPoint rewards, and doesn’t count towards your post count.

The above applies to the majority of the forum, but the DeepDomination tasks forum provides BONUS DeepPoints. DeepDomination tasks are special marketing tasks that help spread the word about DeepOnion. These Domination tasks are currently the best way to earn DeepPoints if they are done correctly. Here are the current rewards for completing DeepDomination tasks:

As you can see, correctly completing Domination tasks can reward up to .03 DeepPoints per day, not including likes. That said, make sure you follow all the rules, complete all the requirements and post full desktop screenshots in order to avoid getting your post deleted. Having a post deleted results in losing 3x the points you gained, so it’s important to make sure you are correctly completing the tasks.

General Forum Rules and Etiquette

Now that you understand DeepPoints, and how to earn them, it’s important to also understand some of the general forum rules, dos and don’ts. Bad behavior in the forum can result in a loss of your DeepPoints, or worse, a ban. It’s important to post thoughtfully and avoid posting spam comments. Here are some general rules to make sure that your account stays in good standing, and receive the ONIONs you deserve:

• Avoid making SPAM posts. Spam posts are those posts that add nothing to a conversation, or lack real content. Examples of spam posts include things like “DeepOnion to the moon!” or “Nice post, I like it!” These posts add nothing constructive to a topic, and are therefore considered spam.

• The main forums are ENGLISH ONLY. There are local forums for different languages at the bottom of the forum list. Use English in the main forums.

• Before you make a new thread, check to see if a similar thread already exists. Use the search feature on the top right of the forums to make sure you aren’t making an unnecessary duplicate topic. For instance there are already numerous threads about the price of DeepOnion, the price of Bitcoin, or the amount of DeepOnions people received from the airdrop. Instead of making a new topic, respond to an existing one.

• Do NOT make multiple accounts. Creating multiple accounts on the DeepOnion forums is seen as a method of cheating. Users with more than one account per IP address will likely be banned.

• Research topics before you ask. Making a topic like “What is DeepOnion, someone help!” can be seen as lazy. There are lots of resources available. Use the search feature to find answers to your questions rather than starting a new thread.

• Use common sense. As long as you are posting in a way that adds to the discussion, you have nothing to worry about. Use your own discretion about what to post, and if you’re posting in good faith you have nothing to worry about.

How can I raise my rank in the forum?

Forum ranks are currently based on “Trophy Points.” Trophy points are awarded for completing feat on the forums. A list of all available trophies can be found HERE.

Here are the prerequisite amounts of trophy points for each rank:

Why Can’t I Post in The DeepDomination Forum?

Due to members trying to farm the DeepDomination tasks and abuse the DeepPoints system, a change has been made to who can complete the DeepDomination tasks. Currently the DeepDomination tasks can only be completed by members who have been registered on the forums for at least seven days. If you just signed up, you will need to wait seven days to complete the Domination tasks.

Additionally, all DeepDomination tasks are locked on Saturday before the Sunday DeepPoints airdrop to be double checked by the moderator team, and prevent and remove abuse or low quality posts.

My DeepPoints are Negative… why?

If your DeepPoints are negative, you have likely had one or more DeepDomination tasks deleted. When you don’t provide the necessary proof, or make a low quality spammy comment on the DeepDomination tasks, your post will be deleted and you will lose 0.0045 DeepPoints per comment deleted. Make sure you are completing each portion of the task correctly, making quality comments, and providing clear proof that you completed the task correctly.

If you have negative DeepPoints on Sunday, you will receive 0 ONIONs from the DeepPoint airdrop.
