"Joseph Monier" (1823~1906)

One day in 1865, while growing flowers in a small garden near Paris, Joseph Monier (1823-19 1906) was very upset by a broken pot. The pot used to break easily against small shocks, simply by making a model out of clay and baking it on a fire.

' You can't make the money for the broken pot, so you're losing money every year. And I can't stop the garden. Since we can't find a sturdy pot, we'll have to make our own.'

After suffering from the constant crushing pot, Monier decided to make a sturdy pot. After much consideration, he first mixed cement and sand, and then he beat them with water to make a concrete pot. The concrete pot was much stronger than the soil pot, but not to that satisfaction.

Monier's study, which followed, produced more than 100 kinds of potted plants and continued for more than two years. Meanwhile, I made a model of a pot with a wire net and applied cement to it. He was as strong as can be.

' Success. That's how it solved the pot problem.'

Monier's pot would not break apart unless it was a very strong impact. He immediately applied for a patent and began producing pot. The reaction was immediate. The pot buyers flocked out of France, and Monier's garden became famous overnight. The pot sale alone that year yielded a cool one million.

Monier decided to make a good change to the garden, after making a lot of money. Phase 1 work was to build stairs on an incline and build a bridge across the stream. To make the most of his experience and ideas, he made stairs and legs with reinforcing steel instead of wire netting. It was the world's first construction using the reinforced concrete method.

When Monier's technique of reinforced concrete became known to the world, the first person to visit was Gustav Adolf Wayss, a German architect.
