I see some of the trees are broken off, and some are cut down. Is this done on purpose?
When I used to ride a bicycle, I also didn’t like pushing it in various impassable places. But it's part of the walk :)

Im Nationalpark werden die abgestorbenen Bäume nur entlang der Wege abgeschnitten. Damit die, wenn sie umstürzen, niemanden erschlagen. Der Rest bleibt stehen und fällt irgendwann von alleine um, spätestens bei Sturm.
Aren't they planting new trees?
Nein, nicht im Nationalpark, hier wird ein Urwald angestrebt.
Jungle? I thought they wanted to turn it into a place to hang out. What's the idea behind all this?
