Wie die „Autorität“ wahrgenommen wird, hängt von der Einschätzung ab, ob etwas richtig oder falsch ist, also der Moral. „Autorität bedeutet mehr als nur die Fähigkeit andere Menschen gewaltsam zu beherrschen. Verbrecher, Dieb und Gangs habe zwar die Fähigkeit zur Gewalt, werden aber nicht als „Autorität“ bezeichnet. „Autorität“ bedeutet, zusätzlich zur Fähigkeit der Gewalt, auch das „Recht“ dazu zu haben, andere Menschen zu beherrschen.
