Digital Minimalism:

to use technology with balance, to be enjoyed and not to be used.

Loosing something is not negative

You can win again FOMO (fear of missing out, or the fear of losing something that is happening somewhere else).
Choose how to spend your free time and literally caring about what is happening elsewhere is the key to solving the problem. How to accomplish to this? Avoiding using the smartphone in presence of other people and avoid interrupting what you are doing (see a movie, eat, talk with friends, listen to friends) disabling any notification. Tried it, it works.

Filter, filter, filter: only the best

Time is a limited resource. If the purpose in a way, not the purpose in another.
If we split the entire day in micro action of 10 minute, each of us has 100 precious actions to be done during the day (other 400 minutes will be well spent sleeping). Every article, every book, every video, every movie, every TV show, every meeting, every trip, every conversation that takes up our time with little value, or remove another from which we could extract more value. This applies to all the time devoted to flows of contents of any kind. How much of that stream has a value that lasts in time and does not end in a few moments?

No digital garbage

Reduce your RSS feeds, reduce your follower on social media and dismiss your unused devices is well and good.
How many apps you have installed on your smartphone? How many do you really use? How much space you could free up? Less physical space, more mental space to devote to the files that matter, files that would be lost in the chaos of the digital clutter.

Produce and not just consume

The web is a boon to those who want to learn and understand. But, if what is learned is not translated into action, if the information is not translated into applied knowledge, the time spent in these activities is not very different, in the end result, than looking at soap opera in the afternoon on television.
How to apply? There is no better way to learn than to teach. Having an online space where to write (steamit could be perfect), summarize the concepts learned in reading a book or watching a video is the best way to revise the concepts, fix them and make a real step forward.
This means balance the time spent on media consumption with respect to content production.
