Dilly Dilly! (Bud Light) Meaning
Dilly Dilly!
We've all seen the commercials... Certainly more than once. Typically something bad happens (or is happening) to a group of people in a medieval setting, but once the Bud Light gets presented to them, they are all happy with their situation and scream out, "Dilly Dilly!"
Check out my favorite one, "Pit of Misery, Dilly Dilly!" -
So what does Dilly Dilly mean, and why are they yelling it once they get their Bud Light? The word dilly originated in the 19th century and was a term used to describe something delightful or delicious. So them yelling out "dilly dilly" when they get their Bud Light can be interpreted as "the Bud Light tastes very good." Although dilly means delightful, some people believe that "Dilly Dilly" has absolutely no meaning and it's just a beautiful sounding catchphrase that feels good just saying it.
How did Bud Light even think of using this phrase in their commercials? Well Bud Light didn't create it, the marketing agency they hired did. They said that they "wanted to dramatize how a friend who brings Bud Light is a great friend."
In addition, they knew they wanted something catchy and different. Even though thats what they were aiming for, they do admit that they never thought it would blow up like this.
Dilly Dilly certainly has spread like wildfire! Now it will be interesting to see how long this lasts, or even how long Bud Light plans on advertising this captivating catchphrase. Dilly Dilly my friends!
