Easy DIY Upcycled Headband

in #diy5 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, this is my first official post other than my Introduceyourself post and I am doing a DIY headband out of old T shirts, a bow, and a small strip of fabric. Before anyone makes this I want to warn them that this makes a small headband and might not fit if you have a large head.

To start with, gather the materials that you will need:

  • The collars cut out of 3 old T-shirts(I used 2 shirts and the bottom hem of an old pair of jeans).

  • A bow that is roughly 4 ½ inches (11½ cm) long and 3 inches (7½ cm) at the widest point(I made one from the bottom of an old pair of black leggings).

  • A thin ribbon or strip of cloth.

The steps:

  • Now, tie a piece of the ribbon around all 3 shirt collars.

  • Start braiding the loops together on one side of the knot.

  • Then start braiding the other side in the same direction as the first side.

  • When you reach the point where you are not able to braid any more, tie another ribbon around that part so that it stays braided.

  • Trim the ends of the ribbon right next to the knot.

  • Undo the first knot and tighten the braid evenly and then retie the knot and trim loose ends.

  • Sew the bow on top of the second knot by hand and stretch the headband in your hands before putting it on.
