Data Storage of the Future

Did you know that music, pictures, text, and video have all been successfully stored in DNA now? That is pretty groundbreaking if you ask me. DNA storage is going to be the next big thing. Sooner or later we will be able to reprogram DNA and have quite an amazing malleable data storage device. This is being worked on as we speak! Researchers have also successfully stored an Amazon gift card in this way. Priorities right?

A few grams of this stuff could potentially hold massive amounts of data. And of course, it is always a great indicator of potential if Microsoft is investing time and money into it. As of now, Microsoft believes that it could bring DNA-based storage into the online commercial market by 2020. That’s not far off at all. I am expecting to see more groundbreaking information about this in the news to come.
