Your Dog and CBD Oil

Our family dog - Nikki, is 16 years old. She is a standard poodle. She has long outlived her breed’s life expectancy of 12 years. But being 16 years old is not without a few severe problems. She has arthritis, urinary issues and is (was) in pain from her advanced age. About 6 months ago I noticed that she was not able to bend down to drink her water or eat her food. Both of these were on the floor and required her to bend over. Whenever she tried to drink or eat, she would yipe in pain. Something had to be done. I was not about to let my best friend of 16 years suffer. So, my son and I decided it was time to start Nikki on a regiment of CBD Oil.

My son and I are consultants to the Cannabis Industry and have been doing a great deal of research into the medical benefits of Cannabis, especially CBD Oil. What we found astonished us. Not only is CBD oil beneficial for people, it can benefit all mammals. One thing that all mammals share is the EndoCannabinoid System. The endocannabinoid system is responsible in our dog’s body (and our body) for its health and emotional balance, immune system regulation, and healing. Scientists are studying the Endocannabinoid system because its proper moderation can bring lasting relief from a long list of ailments. Click here for a study from the National Institute of Health, which examines the fantastic potential of CBD.

What my son and I discovered is that CBD is fantastic for treating ailments including pain relief (teething, inflammation), anxiety (thunderstorms, car rides, transportation) and even cancer (it can reduce those cancerous lumps). It can also be used for epilepsy and acute pain (injuries).

Based on our research we decided to put Nikki on a daily regimen of 10 mg (milligrams) of CBD oil. She is small for her breed weighing in at around 35 pounds. She never grew to her full potential due to her having double pneumonia as a puppy. Because there are no true scientific studies regarding the dosing of dogs and cats, one must use trial and error. Keep in mind that it is difficult if not impossible to overdose a pet or human on CBD.

My suggestion is to start with about 5 milligrams of CBD Oil. You can use a tincture (droppers) that you can put onto your dog’s food or you can use the dog treat method. I prefer the treat method due to ease of use. Nikki expects a treat every time she goes out to “do her business”. So giving her a couple of treats per day is not difficult. In fact, she complains very vocally if she doesn’t get her dog treats. Most dog treats contain about 5 mg so you can start with one treat per day for a small dog and two or three for a larger dog. Base your ultimate dosage on your dog’s response to the CBD. Keep in mind that some issues (such as an injury) will require higher doses for shorter periods of time.

For now, Nikki is quite the happy camper with her regiment of CBD. I truly believe that CBD has increased her life expectancy and made her life more enjoyable. I am hoping to get as much time with her as I can, but I don’t want her to suffer. If you have any questions please comment on this article and I will get back to you pronto!!

Thank you, she is sweet! She may not look it, but she is an old dog haha.

How does treating injuries with cbd work? I have herniated discs and stenosis. Can cbds help? Also, thanks for the info on pets. My dog is starting to get up there in age too; I will try to keep this in mind.

CBD should help with the pain from the herniated discs and stenosis for you. It might take a week or so to get the full benefit of CBD in your system, but it can definitely help you manage that pain. https://redstormscientific.com/cbd-oil-for-chronic-spinal-stenosis-pain-use/
How old is your dog and how big is he/she? You should post a pic of them!
