Look what just a little compassion can do! Puppy edition

It wasn't that long ago that we discovered a horribly diseased pup wandering around a construction area on its own. I had remarked in the past that it is very unusual for a dog this young to be on its own unless the mother has been killed by poisoning or being hit by a car. It is even more unusual for an puppy on its own to survive for very long because they do not have what it takes to acquire food let alone defend itself.

Nong Nau Lek was a mange and other parasite covered mess and was also malnourished. Despite all of this she was very approachable and was easy for us to pick up to take with us back to our facilities for care. This was only around 6 weeks ago and with just a little bit of TLC, which I suspect she has not seen a great deal of in her life, the recovery is just remarkable.

When we found her she was almost completely devoid of any fur, was covered in mange and open wounds from scratching the constant itch of insects living all over her and her ears had many ticks. These parasites alone would have almost certainly killed her in a number of weeks as they slowly consumed her. The sad reality of this is also that even locals that are compassionate towards stray animals tend to stay away from dogs like this because they look sick (but that is just because they ARE sick and will stay that way until we give them some help.)

Just look at that! It ist probably difficult to believe but I promise you that this is the same dog. She is so playful and loving and also gets along well with other dogs. We are very hopeful that we will be able to find her a forever home and have decided that we are going to try out best to keep her on long term if no one else will take her. She was only a few months old and was all alone when we found her, so returning her to the same area that we found her is not an option the same way that it is with other dogs that we find in similar situations.

Personally, I am very happy to see that she is actually a teensy bit overweight now from having routine meals, which as you might be able to imagine, she is really enthusiastic for.

I think Nong Nau Lek will make a wonderful pet for someone and am very hopeful that this will happen. In the meantime we will keep her here with us until that time comes, even if I have to spend my own money on it.

Remember: Don't buy animals, rescue them!

oh nice! It's great to get some interaction here. I have put you on my favorites list and if we have questions that we can't get answers from with our local vets I will be in touch. Thanks for reaching out and I love that your dogs are rescues!
