Monkey

I adopted Monkey five years ago. She came already with her name and a big personality. As the smallest of a litter of 10-13, I imagine she needed that extra feistiness to survive. I hear two or three puppies didn't make it. After a year, all but one of her litter mates were adopted. The family just wanted to keep one puppy, so they put an ad in the local paper. Friends speculate that she was too much for them to handle.

She is half Boykin spaniel and the other two parts are German shepherd and Portuguese podengo. It's rumoured that her father was found dumpster diving in Portugal.

Monkey is a little wild. I used to take her to the beach in the mornings and on trail runs at night. She began to be too boisterous around other people and dogs, so now we just do long walks in the forest at night when everyone is home in bed.

She also is very smart, and has recruited a fellow that lives on our property as her personal attendant that dispenses treats, affection and recreation all day long.

Monkey always gets to go in the car whenever possible which is most of the time. I can tell that this is a very important part of her day.

Hello @kimmac!

Congratulations! Thanks for using the #dogsofsteemit hashtag! This post has been chosen as one of the winners for Episode 56 of the #dogsofsteemit challenge.

Can't wait to see more dog photos from you!

Oh thank you! I didn't realize there was a contest. 😊 Double surprise!

She's so cute! It is wonderful to have people willing to put in the effort for the dogs that need a little extra attention ...and space. When we adopted our little guy, Orbit, in december it was after losing our 15 yo pug in august. He was surrendered due to high energy and biting (owner was not in a position to have a terrier, let alone a puppy). He is now just about 8.5 months old and we have to work daily to keep him too tired to bite! haha

I’ve been following your orbit adventures. He is so cute!
I try to remind myself that Monkey is really good about some things. Like staying on the property when unsupervised and free.
I think Orbit will work out just fine. He is still so young, and you two seem to be so conscientious.
At my house, every person has different rules and that’s just telling Monkey to push limits all the time because hey she might get to do exactly what she wants. 🙂

Yes. It is easier for us to be on the same page for the most part since it’s just us two. It’s just me & the boy for the weekend as hubs is in NYC, so it’ll be interesting to see how we bond.
