My soft pastel drawing: St. Marco’s Square

in #drawing7 years ago (edited)

Hi dear art fans,

Today I would like to present you my Sunday drawing, those cold winter day makes people to stay majority of time at home, we have had a small chilly walk at sea shore, as we usually do daily and afterwards I decided to make a fire in fireplace and enjoyed my hot cup of coffee in front of dancing fire, I love to watch the fire and the small of wood, I think I would be able to stay the whole like that but I thought I will do a bit of drawing.

As I have already done an action movie character last, it was Logan from X-men, so this time I thought I need to do something else. I just thought about nice warm places and of course I was in Venice in my mind, that is the place with nice architecture that you can draw again and again. My favorite place is Piazza San Marco often known in English as St Mark's Square. That place is very loved by tourists and of course people in love, almost everyone either had been or planning to visit this place.

I have done before some of the drawing but I thought this time I do the place like it would be in Medieval time with guess what? …Of course, the sails and boats! There was always many boats, gondolas and of course ships. Nowadays you see modern cruise ships and they all look huge, and steel. Therefore, I prefer to draw the time of wood made and with many sails boats, that are sailing and friendly for environment.

My drawing I made using pastel paper and soft pastel sticks as well as pencils for fine work, I called it simply : St. Marco’s Square. Here is the final result:

As always I made couple of process photos.

Thanks for your nice words and I am glad you visited my post!

Very beautiful the color combination of this drawing and also the blog reminds me that I was there ....

Thank you @theia, actually I was not sure if my combination of those different colors of building would work or not or was a kind of experiment. As you know with pastel you put the colors first adn then blend. So I put ocre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, a bit of some red, so it was looking a bit messy but after blending it turned into that nice color, the building suppose to express aged stones :)

Beautiful! The way you did the light and shadow, the richness of the sky and the age of the boats... I can almost hear the lap of the water. This is a wonderful piece of art. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thank you @katrina-ariel, the light and shadow I love to draw that gives a drawing 3d effect and realistic style

Awesome shadows, stef1 ... . Gives it a dramatic feel :)

thanks for viewing and for your words
