I have a simple trick that if learned is an excellent way to combat sleep paralysis or nightmares. close your eyes hard until you hear the bloodflow from closing them harder than usual, then open them. spend 10 minutes a night practicing this technique over a week and you should be able to do it sleeping. doing it while asleep causes you to instantly wake and once you learn to do it actively in any dream you can use the ability to break out of sleep paralysis. this technique if you learn to do it halfway instead of fully waking you can hold your hand out focus on something and it shatters that entire element of the dream,it can delete whole worlds so should not be used carelessly especially during an out of body experience
