3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as X or ecstasy, is a synthetic entactogenic substance used primarily as a party drug. It produces intense feelings of empathy, waves of euphoria, and disinhibition.

The recreational use of MDMA was introduced by a biochemist named Alexander Shulgin during the 70’s era. He was known for synthesizing, testing psychoactive drugs and documenting it with his wife, Ann Shulgin. It also gained its popularity in psychotherapy, where it revealed its potential to help patients that suffer from severe PTSD.

The drug can alleviate anxiety for some individuals, and make conversations much smoother and fluid. It makes you more sociable and open to the people that surround you. This is one of the reasons why MDMA is so popular in bars and nightclubs. It triggers the brain to release good amounts of serotonin, the chemical that regulates our mood and function.

MDMA users feel depressed and anxious after an intense night of rolling. It’s what they call the comedown. It takes some time for the brain to recover the serotonin that was released. The process temporarily depletes the brain with a very crucial chemical. According to some researchers, the recovery could take anywhere from two days to a whole week.

Doing your own research is a must before taking any kind of drugs. Even though MDMA is a safe substance, there are still things that should not be forgotten prior to the experience. Here are some ways to have a great MDMA roll without causing any harm, and to avoid having a bad comedown:

1. Test the Substance
There’s a lot of harmful research chemicals being sold as MDMA these days. Some of these chemicals are deadly even at low doses, which is one of the main reasons of the deaths related to MDMA. To know if you have the real stuff, you will need a reagent testing kit. You can visit https://dancesafe.org. They have the kits that you need to test different kinds of substances. Do not hesitate to get a testing kit. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

2. Weigh Out Your Dosage Properly
Eyeballing your dose is never a safe thing to do. Always weigh your stuff with a functional milligram scale. A safe dose of MDMA should range between 75-125 milligrams. Some can push it up to 200 milligrams, but I don’t recommend taking such a high dose, especially when you are not experienced with the drug yet. Besides that, it could also raise the possibility of getting a bad comedown.
A precise way to prepare a safe dose is to add 50 to your total weight in kilograms. The total will be the right dosage for you, in milligrams. So if weigh you 80kg, the ideal dose for you would be 130mg.

3. Take Supplements or Nootropics
Taking supplements can protect you from any health risks, or brain damage that MDMA may cause. There are tons of information about these supplements online and you should really check it out. It should be taken before and after the experience. Nootropics like piracetam can also help you prevent any brain damage. The ideal dose would be 3-4 grams of piracetam, an hour prior to the experience. There are some reports about piracetam and its potential to potentiate a MDMA trip. But these are just anecdotal evidence. The drug may affect every person differently.

4. Stay Hydrated
Always drink enough water throughout the entire roll. This is highly advised to all the users who like to do intense activities like dancing and running. Staying hydrated will lower the risk of having hyperthermia (heat-stroke / over-heating), which is one of the constant problems with the use of MDMA. Just make sure not to drink too much water. Over-hydration can cause hyponatremia. It dramatically decreases the salt levels in your body. Having some salty snacks, or drinks that contain electrolytes may help prevent it.

5. Be in a safe and cool place
This will lower the possibility of having a heatstroke and dehydration. Tripping in a controlled environment like your home is way safer than being in a hot and crowded environment like a rave. Always be aware of your own self. Maintain positivity by constantly checking on yourself, like taking small breaks in the middle of an activity.

6. Get Enough Sleep and Eat Nutritious Meals
If you hate the comedown so much like I do, then you should really follow this tip. Enough rest and nutrition are important for the recovery of the energy and chemicals that you lost from the trip. Coming down from MDMA is no joke. It will literally feel like every bit of happiness in your soul got sucked out. You gotta stay healthy if you’re a frequent MDMA user.
