Is DrugWars declining without Steem payouts?

in #drugwars6 years ago (edited)

DrugWars, one of the most popular DApps out there on Steem platform was launched around 3 months back and saw an enormous traction from the Steem community. During the last few months it saw a huge number of users signing up for same. The main driving factor for all this enormous hit was ability to earn Steem tokens by producint drugs and investing in the daily heists.

But, with their recent switch from STEEM to Future Tokens, I feel users have started kind of leaving the platform and not taking it that seriously. The main reason for which I feel is the creditbility and market value that STEEM crypto-currency has as compared to what Future Token has or I should say would have.

Seeing the stats on StateOfTheDapps also portray a similar picture, showing a recent decline.

What are your thoughts on this and do you feel that STEEM payouts was a better driving factor for DrugWars? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Most interesting and thoughtful answers stand a chance to win some STEEM via Steem Bounty- https://steem-bounty.com/ platform.

I can still convert Future Tokens to Steem, but the amount they were paying out is reduced by a lot. It takes 3 days to gain $0.04. That's not really worth it and I started playing from the beginning. I can get paid at least 10 times that every day just from Kryptogamers just for staking tokens.
But I use it as part of my daily routine.

Definitely. I think the problem is that they failed to communicate their "future" (pun intended) plans with the community.

In the beginning, they got people to invest and play with the promise of STEEM rewards. And that's great. But they should have told people right off the bat that they plan to replace those rewards with FUTURE Tokens. I feel that if they communicated this properly, then none of the users would have felt cheated with the switch from STEEM Rewards to FUTURE Rewards.

For me, that's the main reason why people are leaving the platform in drones. I mean, it became an "investment" opportunity to money sink overnight. So, for the people who thought they would reap STEEM Rewards, no matter how little or declining they were, I don't blame them for feeling cheated.

Another reason is the lack of imaginative gameplay. All you can do is upgrade your buildings and troops all day. The missions they promised are pretty useless, and the attack system is pretty ridiculous, especially with the way troops are decimated so easily. For example, I've tried to build really formidable troops twice now, reaching thousands of army units both times. Unfortunately, I lost both armies in the blink of an eye just because I was attacked by a severely OP user. It's disheartening and difficult to recover after a loss like that. And if you consider that I didn't even have a lot of resources to steal, it's ridiculous that I had my entire army destroyed over nothing.

Granted, I'm still in the game, doing the heists, upgrades, etc. once a day, but I don't really bother beyond that anymore. My excitement over the game has faded, and I'm back to playing more SteemMonsters because, at least with that game, there's actual gameplay for users to keep busy.

Yes i think they shut themselves in the foot by switching from Steem payout to Future token. I read the post where they tried to explain why and I saw a lot of dissatisfied members kicking against it. What is Future token? What is its' value? Is it exchangeable at the click of a finger? So many questions that just didn't add up caused a lot of members to loose faith in the game. If they had changed payout to Bitcoin I bet they'll still have growing members because Bitcoin can easily be exchanged. Who is buying the Future token? Nobody, so members having it is like having loads of coins you can't do anything with. There will probably be an increased in decline of the game as more credible games are introduced to the Steem blockchain.

They didn't do themselves any favors, that is for sure.
But, the wider internet won't know anything about how they launched.
Let's hope they get some folks to sign up to steem.

Dear @rjoshicool, of course the credibility of the game crash down after they moved to futures and they scammed Steemit user by making themself exchange value.
There is not any connection between the real value of futures in the game than in the real market, just you need to use your obyte wallet and change them with obyte insteed using robbery internal exchanger.
When people see such rape system, they left, i keep on just for fun, but my idea is to make a kind of exchanger to help people to get more polite exchange, i will write a post soon...

Yes, they attracted a lot of people in the beginning but lost them at the same rate.

Yes. I think the ability to earn Steem was the huge factor people were playing it.

I worked in game design concept art for a while, while the drug wars game is interesting, lacks a strong element of fun or replayability. It's a grind just to increase base statistics, and the value of future coins to steam is not equal. Before I was earning 0.05 STEEM per day and the highest, now I am earning 2 future per day, the Cash Out is a minimum of 50... So not getting a motivational reward to play every day.

And also as mentioned, the heart of it is just not a engaging fun game. Very little exploration, very little input, is just a daily grind. :/

That being said I do login every day or so to check how things are going, upgrade a few things, deposit drugs into the heist, and sort of think I'm going to keep stockpiling until the price of future... If it ever does.. move up, cash out.

Appreciate your thoughts. Completely agree with you on this. I wonder if ever FUTURE would be as valuable as STEEM

It's not really a dapp anymore when they don't use a blockchain. So they shouldn't be on stateofthedapps to begin with. But that can be said form most dapps, they are not really decentralized and blockchain is only a marketing gimmick.

Dear @niel96 as you can see from below image they didn't completely moved out from Steem blockchain, when you make an upgrade of buildings it comes custom json:

Thanks for sharing this @intellihandling but I believe they overall they are no more on Steem, because-

  1. They are posting JSONs on Steem Blockchain, hence, no records over there but instead on their own servers.
  2. They are no longer providing Steem payouts.
  3. They now allow to regain on platform without Steem account, like- Facebook, email etc.

Completely agree with you. With them not publishing transactions on Steem Blockchain, they are actually no more a DApp

Changing the parameters every week is not the way you operate a new dapp. In that case, your fans will disrespect you and stop to play the game.
What kills them is the switch from paying in Steem to an internal useless coin.

@rjoshicool, I don't play this game but in my opinion, when it comes to rewards payout then for investment of time and effort people will expect thriving coin like Steem which have value but nowadays more than positive, negative feedbacks are coming for this platform. Hope that soon it will improve if truly there is any issue.
