A Song about being Home
Berlin, Germany is my favorite city in the world. It's got everything any decent city has-great restaurants, parks, museums, and architecture, but there's something even more to it. Everywhere I went I met people who really wanted to be there, and this really makes a difference. One friend said "It's a city you could move to in your twenties and wake up one day at 50 and realize you just spent 25 years here; it's just magical."
For me Berlin is also special because it's where I really started to write a lot of songs, and is the place where I met my wife. However, it's still not home. I grew up on a little farm in Ohio, and no matter where I've lived, or where I go, I take this with me, and can't quite leave it behind. This original song, "Ohio" was written during a time I lived in Berlin and was at a point where I really wanted to have some space, be around fewer people, and surrounded by fields and trees.
Thank you for the ongoing support everyone, to @jrue for these original Ohio pictures, and to @DSound.
Lyrics:
When you’re born somewhere the land runs through your veins
And Ohio is the place where I was raised
With empty railroad tracks and wide open roads
And lazy evenings watching muddy rivers flow
I miss you Ohio, Ohio
I didn’t stay but your memory carries on
Ohio I’ll be back someday I hope it won’t be long
Ohio, Ohio
Now I live in a valley between mountains of concrete and glass
And I’m lost in a sea of lonely faces drifting past
And a bitter wind blows and I’ve never felt so cold
And grey snow on the ground makes me feel so old
I miss you Ohio, Ohio
I didn’t stay but your memory carries on
Ohio I’ll be back someday I hope it won’t be long
Ohio, Ohio
And now I know that Spring is coming soon
And when I close my eyes I can see your flowers bloom
And warm midnight walks where you always see the sky
But when I think of you I swear I will not cry
I miss you Ohio, Ohio
I didn’t stay but your memory carries on
Ohio I’ll be back someday I hope it won’t be long
Ohio, Ohio

Hi Daniel, being right in the heart of Berlin i can relate very - very much to what you are saying. It's probably the most creative city these days, and it inspires a lot of people to let their true intentions & desires come out, but getting lost happpens faster than one realizes. It happened to so many of my musician and artist friends, and to my girldfriend and myself as well, so that every now and then we have to leave Berlin to get a reality check and perspective from outside of the 'bubble'. And we too have decided to move to a more rural area (her being from the mountains and me from the mediterranean).
Love the song, it's honest and (for lack of better words) pure.

Thank you sir! And for your story as well.
Even if I´m more that kind of man, who carries his home in his heart (and brain) and who feels at home literally everywhere, where he finds interesting people, I get ywhat you´re singing about in your song. Your thoughts and emotions translate excellently through your music. I´ll follow you straight away (upvote included). Enjoy your life! Rolf from the Czech republic
Thank you Rolf from the Czech Republic. I like what you're saying.
I like the song while I was reading the lyrics I imagined a country style song. I’m glad I listened to it I liked the folk sound with the country atmosphere (not country music just out in the wilderness feeling). I feel like you do about Ohio except for I feel that way about Texas. I am a trasnsplant in CA from TX. But Texas will always be home. Anyway good song, good post and I look forward to more from you!
oh it is something I understand, the pain of being far from home!!
Stay strong!
I love me an Ohio campfire.
