An Intro to our Crazy Vegan Keto Fasting Diet | @justlibby Podcast #042

Hey guys! I have some exciting updates about a few major lifestyle adjustments. I brought on @freetousesounds to dish out our insane new diet.

Have you heard of the Ketogenic Diet? I know, it sounds like the latest dieting fab but it has been around for decades. In the 1920's scientist found great results with children suffering from epilepsy. Nowadays, people are catching on to this way of eating.

Here's a quick overview of what the Keto Diet is. To put it simply it is a way of eating predominately with high-fat foods (ie avocado, coconut oil, nuts etc), with adequate-protein, and a low percentage of carbs (fruit, grains, rice). If you properly eat in this manner for a period of time your body will go into ketosis. According to ruled.me "during this state, we produce ketones, which are produced from the breakdown of fats in the liver." Essentially our body burns fat instead of sugar.

There is loads of info about Keto out there and I highly recommend you doing your own research!

Additionally, we've implemented intermittent fasting to our low carb/high-fat lifestyle. Marcel and I will be eating during a window of 8 hours and fasting for 16 hours. From 10-6 we eat only 3 meals without any snacks. Several studies have shown that intermittent fasting helps regulate insulin levels, enables cellular repair, facilitates growth hormone production, and sheds weight.

Again, do your own research and see if this is right for you.

Lastly, we're still strict on our plant-based/vegan lifestyle. We consume no animal products what-so-ever (even honey.) Combined with Keto + IF creates an interesting balance of cuisine! It's challenging but not impossible!

Listen to this original @dsound podcast for the full scoop and why we're doing this! Please let me know if you have any questions because I'd love to answer them!!

Thanks for swinging my blog and I can't wait to chat with you soon!
