Digital Detox - Unplug Yourself - Part 1

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Hello DTube!

This topic has been bothering me for some time, and today felt like it was the day to go to the beach and film Part 1 of my Digital Detox vlog (click on the picture above to view the video :).

What is "Digital Detox", you ask me. Well, I believe this is something that everybody will be doing in 20 years. Similar to how we quit smoking, limit ourselves in alcohol consumption and deal with sex addiction - we will have to face the monster that is impossible to avert your eyes from. The multi-headed dragon of social media and addiction to digital devices.

It's nice to meet you. My name is Elena, and I'm a digital junkie.

I sleep with my phone.

I eat with my phone.

Every time I stop at a traffic light, I have to check my phone.

I decided this has to stop.

So please join me on this fun 8-week challenge when I am going to introduce simple changes to my routine in an attempt to get my life back to normal. To get it back where it was ten years ago.

Don't get me wrong! I'm going to continue reaping the benefits of what this wonderful technology has to offer - only without abusing it. I'm still going to enjoy that glass of chardonnay at dinner - just one ;).

I limit myself to one glass of wine a day.jpg

This week, I encourage all of you to buy an analog alarm clock (the idea belongs to @steemfluencer, and the thread that gave me the final nudge to start this vlog was started by @denmarkguy). Yes, you heard me! Buy a good old alarm clock and move your cell phone out of your bedroom. The idea is that you won't be checking your phone immediately after you wake up, or (if you're as crazy as I am) - when you wake up to pee in the middle of the night and check the phone right after.

I'm going to get that alarm clock today and post a picture of myself in the comment. Please join me on this fun challenge :)! And good luck!

xoxoxo
Love and peace,
Elena

great post bellydancegirl! keep it up! and thanks again for following!

Thank you so much, @five34a4b!

Sorry my body isn't built just yet. I reside only here for now.

I'm with you on this one. I can't get rid of my smart phone though because I already did that several years ago! I don't even carry a flip phone any more. It's so nice :-)

Another problem with these devices is the light really screws up your cicadian rhythm. Some of the newer phones have what's called 'blue light' that is supposed to reduce the effect but all the other signs of dependency you point out will still be there.

I've been a serious computer geek most of my life but I still recognize the truth of what you're saying and have changed my habits after seeing what the smart phone revolution has done.

Interesting topic, nice post.

@btcnoodle, I'm in serious awe as to getting rid of the smartphone goes! This is so cool - and I don't think I have the will power to do it - not yet! I'll get there, I promise. I'm also a computer geek, and you are right - smartphones have completely changed our lives, and it's only the beginning!
