Last night my video about Steemit went VIRAL on Facebook - and got Jon Cryer tweeting about Steemit!

I have spent the last week gently exploring Steemit, posting a few blogs, reading and commenting on others posts, and doing some tutorials. It has been a valuable investigation that has led to me believe that Steemit holds serious potential for myself as a content creator (I am a musician, speaker, music producer and essential oil educator), and also for my wide network of creative minds.

I take putting my energy behind things publicly very seriously. I have around 50k+ followers spread across my various social networks and another 40k+ on my mailing list. While this may not rank highly in the competition of “influencers” in the social landscape, my followers are generally highly engaged and open to new ideas.

So last night I decided to go public with my new found belief in the Steemit platform and record a video you can watch below as a rough intro. I posted it to FB with the heading “The ONE problem you should be thinking about with social media…and an invitation to do things differently”. You can watch the video below via dTUBE link…

To call the response I received overwhelmingly positive is an understatement.

Within hours the post had been shared over 30 times and had generated over 2k views. It is now about 10 hours later (I am in Panama City on a layover to Brazil where I will be starting a tour with my folk duo Radnor & Lee), and the video has been liked over 100 times, views are close to 4.5k and the post as been shared 36 times and still growing quickly.

But the comments are where the real evidence is that this platform is needed and in demand by those that didn’t even know of its existence:

Then things got interesting over on Twitter when the actor Jon Cryer watched my video and tweeted it out:

After that Justine Bateman, an actress who also studied computer science, chimed in too

And an Aussie actress Alicia Hannah, who has 4.5k+ followers on Twitter signed up!

I have received only supportive and grateful FB messages and tweets from people so excited that an alternative exists. Even those unfamiliar with crypto see the potential in connecting in this way.

So there you have it - the world is waiting for this opportunity and just need to be told it exists. Lets get out there and build this community!

Hi @benleemusic. Welcome to Steemit!

I watched your video and it seems like you have a good understanding of the benefits of Steemit as opposed to other social media sites. Steemit and the other sites based on the Steem blockchain reward the content creators and those who give their attention to the platform.

That's where the real value is and what advertisers have been paying for all these years, our attention.

Well, the site certainly has my attention. I've been on it for 16-months now and earn enough to pay all my bills. It's crazy and goes to show you how much Facebook and YouTube have been making off of us for so long without sharing any of their profits.

The community here is amazing and we get rewarded for being part of it.

Since you're into music perhaps you would like to play for the Steemit Open Mic community here. We have 400 people a week playing music for us and growing. Would love to hear you play something.

Have a listen to the winners this week and if you want to join in here is this week's contest link

Here are some things you'll find helpful on your journey through the Steem-O-Sphere.

I will look it through. Thank you for the invitation. Great work you are doing by fostering new talent!

Thanks. It's a labor of love that started with an idea and has grown into a thriving community. The Open Mic community never ceases to amaze me.

I would say that for musicians
specifically.. Steemit Open Mic is among, if not the best thing on Steemit.

It’s also probably one of the most receptive and supportive communities as well.

There are also a number of musicians who spearhead various other muwic projects within the community worth checking out and who r engaging with.

Welcome!
Jb

It'll be nice to have a look.

Hear hear from the man @luzcypher.
A singer/actress also have joined from the Philippines @janmarini
Cheers! See u again in SF3!

Hi @benleemusic,

Thank you for sharing this video. I thought you had some great insights about the changing economics of social media for musicians.

We shared your video on the Steemit's Best Classical Music facebook page, and included it in our latest Roundup post.

Thank you so much!

Wow amazing! We need something like this to happen every day with steem to become the next social media platform.

I think it will start happening more and more often

Happy for you @benleemusic. I look forward to hearing your music and perhaps learning from you, I'm an established recording artist no longer wanting to work with record labels.

Im excited to hear your music. Whats the best place?

You can google Soul Sista Shakti, I like the tracks with Evolve the best but there are quite a few of them. Thank you :) I just signed up for your email list. It's getting late here in NYC but I will check out your music in the morning, from what I can see you are an incredible lyricist.

Ben, I just listened to a few of your songs - I love it! Great, positive vibe and nice instrumentation and composition. I look forward to exploring your other projects as well and hope to check out a live show if you ever come to NYC. Thank you for sharing it with the world. Brenda

Hey Ben, I'm a big fan and super stoked your here with us on steemit - this is just amazing :D

I wanted to reach out to you in some way because well this is insane and I wanted to welcome you, but also because we have a great and rapidly growing music community here on steemit.

I am a judge of Open Mic contest and the Songwriters Challenge, along with @luzcypher (the legendary host), @verbal-d, @soundlegion and @passion-ground and @meno - we have literally hundreds of entrants each week ( I am sure at least a couple of your fans to boot) and give away hundreds of steem weekly.

It would be amazing if you could drop by and check out some of our truly phenomenal musicians, I know so many of them would appreciate some love and attention from a legend like you.

Again stoked to have you here with us - resteemed - Cheers :D

I'd be happy to! Just in the music section? Let me know how I can be involved

Hi @benleemusic. I host the Open Mic contest and Songwriters Challenge @krystle mentioned. You can see who's trending now here.

These are this week's winners

This is this week's entry page

Come join in the fun and play us a song on Steemit for the community. Would love to hear you play.

My best suggestion would be to check out @luzcyphers comment above, he is our dedicated leader and all round awesome dude - I'm just little hyped to actually interact with you, this has made my day :D

Good job @benleemusic ... Use "#promo-steem" , tag whenever you do any marketing post related post for steemit, your post would be upvoted by Steemit whales ...

Great advice. Thanks for the tip. So much to learn!

Hey Ben this is pretty awesome... thank you for doing this..

I like being a part of a fun experiment!

Ben Lee is on Steemit? How did I not know this.

Mate, I’ve been a fan of your stuff since way back and saw you play live in a little bar in Adelaide many years ago. It was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. My wife got your signature too. :)

It’s so good to see you promoting Steemit and still going strong!

Thanks mate. Its a marathon not a sprint right? Always adventuring down new paths. Its the only way to stay vibrant and inspired!

I had a look through your feed and can see that you’re doing some great new stuff. Will have a listen when I’m back on wifi. Also check out the #teamaustralia group here on Steemit. There are lots of active Aussies on here. I’m sure @choogirl will stop by with registration instructions if I don’t beat her to it. :)

Ditto! I posted some memories in my post further down :)

Stoked to see you joining the platform. The first time I saw you perform was at the Kings Arms in Auckland (your first NZ gig I think). The sound wasn't working so you climbed up on the bar in the middle of the crowd to sing to us/with us while they sorted it. Every Melbourne gig I have seen of yours has also been a joy to be part of.

Hopefully you will join @teamaustralia (I'm sure they will have commented on your posts already).
You look like you are getting some good guidance - for others who are new to the site - here are somethings that I learned or found useful in my first two weeks - especially for Australians or those living in Australia.

Sounds like me! ;)
So many helpful people. Having fun digging in and seeing what I can create here with all you guys

Great video. You've really captured the essence of what Steemit is about in a way that most people can relate. Really look forward to following more of your content.
