Discussion - Posting Same Content on Steemit and DTube

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

The appearance of DTube as a potential long-term replacement to YouTube makes me very interested in posting my video content there. However, if I were to imitate what I'm doing at YouTube on DTube as well without changing anything else I'd still have my normal Steemit.com posts which feature that same video along with a longer article. In other words, two posts containing the same video at their core on the blockchain from the same account.

My question to the community:

Should we consider posting similar content to different services that run on Steem (e.g. Steemit, DTube) to be the same as posting the same content on Facebook and YouTube (i.e. totally fine), or should we consider any submission to the blockchain something to not be duplicated no matter the source?

Interesting thoughts. You bring up a valid point. Since both Steemit and DTube are places where you can earn rewards. I currently don't rely heavily on videos in my Steemit posts, and still have a hard time with DTube playing for me. I upload using YouTube but have all my videos unlisted. So they basically just show up here on Steemit.

After your post here I looked into Dtube a bit. It's easy to use and has a nice interface, but you do have to share your rewards when you use it.

I wrote up some basic instructions for uploading videos to IPFS and sharing on Steem without having to give up 25% of author rewards to DTube.

Let me know what you think.

It would be best not to duplicate posts in my opinion but I do see that dtube provides a nice user interface. Steemit will be able to take proper video uploads soon I hear and then its really only a matter of using the right tags and maybe a plugin to display related videos. But if you want to share your videos with more people now then I think you should go ahead and see how it works for you with dtube. Good luck!

I didn't know about Steemit allowing video posts soon. I'll go looking for information on that, but if you have a link handy that'd be helpful.

Here you go. I know there are a few other projects out there . I'm guessing it wont take more than another month or 2. https://steemit.com/viewly/@furion/this-demo-app-lets-you-publish-videos-on-steem

Looks promising! I wonder if download speeds will be an issue. DTube seems a bit slow for me so far.

These things will be a bit slower in the beginning until the network grows more. That is the trade-off for avoiding services like Youtube, Facebook etc. In case you don't know: when you share a video as a torrent then the first people watching the video will be downloading it from your device. After that, new people will be downloading the video from anyone else who is online and has downloaded it.

So any Torrent, IPFS, Freenet etc link will be as fast or slow as your personal device is at first, but after a few views it will be just about as fast as anything else.

I duplicate my YouTube videos onto the blockchain. I use https://alpha.view.ly/ which is better than D-Tube in my opinion. You can pull videos straight from YouTube with a URL. Great work by @furion

Viewly does seem to have a smoother viewing experience, though don't they limit the upload to 100mb?

When you duplicate your YouTube videos on Viewly, do you also make a Steemit post sharing your video, thus creating two posts about your video on the Steem blockchain, or do you only do Viewly?

I only use View.ly which posts directly to the STEEM blockchain and your Steemit profile. The 100mb limit definitely sucks but hopefully that will change soon.

Actually I am interested in this video stuff as I may be posting videos soon in my blogs, I see it as no-choice because these are knowledge stuff. No choice because I have no idea really how to make one haha. Anyway, may you find all my posts man, I am sure it will interest you, and possibly in the replication aspects when I arrive at such point.

Regards.
